Candidates will normally be given at least one-week’s notice of interview. Location of Post There is currently a vacancy available for occupational therapist, Senior in Community Healthcare West. A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for which current and future, permanent and specified purpose Occupational Therapist Senior (Disability Services) vacancies within CHW of full or part-time duration may be filled. Taking up Appointment A start date will be indicated at job offer stage. Organisational Area Community Healthcare West (Community Health Organisation 2 – CHO2)(Galway, Mayo and Roscommon) Informal Enquiries Dr Aoife O’Donohue General Manager Disability Community Healthcare West, Unit 10A Merlin Park, Galway Reporting Relationship The Occupational Therapist, Senior will report to General Manager or nominated manager. Purpose of the Post The Senior OT is part of the Clinical Review Team. The purpose of the Clinical Review Team is to provide a forum that facilitates reviews of new admission, current admissions and business cases in a systematic manner. This committee will assist the Senior Management Team by providing a comprehensive assessment of individual’s profiles, current services and proposed service delivery plans.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Senior Occupational Therapist will:
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of standards of practice of self and staff appointed to clinical/designated area(s).
  • Be responsible for managing own caseload and for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users according to service standards.
  • Participate in the integrated discharge planning process in line with the HSE Code of Practice.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated service area(s) by supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work and promoting positive staff morale and team working.
  • Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries are in accordance with local service, professional and legislative standards.
  • Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments, treatment/intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
  • Ensure that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality/data protection, ethics and legislation.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications and/or experience Candidates for appointment must:
  • Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
  • Have three years full time (or an aggregate of three years) post qualification clinical experience.
  • Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
Skills, competencies and/or knowledge Professional Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning skills and evidence based practice appropriate to carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the role in line with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of the Occupational Therapy process, the underpinning theory and its application to the role.
