We are seeking a Senior Designer to join the company’s Marketing Team. The Senior Designer is a creative and collaborative member of S-RM’s Marketing team, who supports the strategic goals of the team and wider business, ensuring that they are delivering high quality print and digital communications. This person will have a sharp focus on the detail, and execute high-quality design work. They will be an effective communicator, able to work with global teams, demonstrate ongoing design innovation in their work, and adept at design problem-solving. They will oversee projects from brief to delivery, spanning print and digital mediums, motion graphics, interactive content and web design.

The role

At S-RM no day is the same, and there are incredible opportunities to learn. This role fits into our central operations function, you’ll be supporting the entire business and all locations in their design needs in concert with the rest of the marketing team. We are looking for someone who is adaptable, can be part of a team and wants to grow with the business. We expect that the Senior Designer will likely be involved with some or all of the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Principal Designer to manage design and branding requirements across the business;
  • Support creative requests from stakeholders across the company including marketing, sales, client-facing teams and the Executive Committee;
  • Engage with project stakeholders to clarify and define the project scope, understand the brief and agree on timelines to deliver high-quality and impactful design solutions;
  • Work on multiple projects at a time and demonstrate good time management skills;
  • Research and plan concepts for design and prepare drafts of materials based on the brief;
  • Conceptualise and design branding materials, such as brochures, illustrations, layouts, infographics, presentations, conceptual designs, proposals, social media collateral;
  • Act as a brand guardian, ensuring the S-RM’s visual brand is applied consistently and to the highest standards;
  • Demonstrate our company values through day-to-day behaviour and interactions with colleagues;
  • Provide timely, authentic and constructive feedback to colleagues and seek feedback in return.
The role will be based in our Cape Town office, however we have hybrid working arrangements available.

What we're looking for

We think candidates with the following skills and experience are likely to succeed as a Senior Designer at S-RM. That said, if you don’t think you meet all of the criteria below but are still interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box—we’re looking for candidates that are particularly strong in a few areas, and have some interest and capabilities in others. We’re looking for someone that is able to adapt to change and work comfortably in a fast-paced environment, this person will have some or all of these skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, the Visual Arts or a related field; or equivalent work experience;
  • Some professional experience (we estimate at least 4 - 6 years’ will be most appropriate) of working in an in-house design team or a communications, digital, or creative agency. Because of the nature of the work you will do with us, B2B experience will be preferred;
  • Demonstratable working knowledge of editorial design, art direction and the creative process for print and digital;
  • Demonstratable experience in print design, offset production and document pre-press;
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, After effects, Premiere, InDesign, Audition);
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Illustration, animation, video and photography skills with be particularly advantageous;
  • Experience working with content management systems and marketing automation platforms – specifically HubSpot – will also be advantageous.
  • Experience working with global teams remotely preferred
Successful candidates are also likely to show the following personal attributes:
  • Excellent eye for detail and ambitious for the quality of their work;
  • A proactive self starter adept at critical thinking and problem-solving;
  • Able to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with diverse global teams across different time zones ;
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work methodically and meet deadlines in a fast-paced professional environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure effective presentation of ideas, concepts and creative outputs to colleagues at all levels;
  • Understands the strategic role of design and visual branding within a B2B environment;
  • Strong working knowledge of design techniques and principles, including visual hierarchy, colour, layout and balance in print, web and interactive design.
Candidates must have permission to work in South Africa by the start of their employment.
  • 23 days holiday per year in addition to bank holidays (+1 day for every day of service up to a maximum of 28 days);
  • Matching pension contribution up to 7% (up to a maximum of 14% combined), and financial education ;
  • Hybrid working and flexible working hours.
Parental Support:
  • Fertility treatment leave – 5 days of leave per cycle of treatment per year;
  • Maternity leave – 26 weeks of full pay followed by 13 weeks of half pay;
