About Umicore Battery Materials in Canada:Umicore is preparing to build a battery materials production plant in Loyalist Township, Ontario - the first of its kind in North America. The cutting-edge facility will be a critical part of Canada's electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Throughout the design, construction, and operation of the plant, Umicore will be seeking a variety of professionals who share our passion for innovation and sustainability.

What you will be doing:For this new site, we are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Manager, reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing standards and systems for the Mechanical Engineering team, applicable to the relevant Capital Project. Collaborating with global and external engineering experts to develop best-in-class technical solutions for new assets and facilities, and assigning Mechanical engineers to the project team(s) to support the installation and commissioning of the facility in their field of specialization up to handover to operations.

Responsibilities:

Partner with the Global Engineering organization for the application of established standard designs and/or strategies for engineering execution.

Champion the common platform approach across global UBM facilities to maximize productivity, scale, and opportunity to learn from experience in other locations.

Guarantee the execution of work within the project agreed scope, planning, and budget of their field of responsibility.

Work with other specialized teams, integrating the work with other specialties into the final project solution, assuring that timelines are met.

Propose improvements (procedures, organizational, new technologies, capex, productivity) as appropriate.

Assure that technical requirements are met.

Manage risk, change of scope, and deviations of the work assigned to his team members.

Coordinate the work awarded to contractors, guaranteeing a safe execution, quality of workmanship, and that timelines are respected.

Perform or support commissioning of the equipment before handing over to the Process team and support the process team during the internal qualification.

Support direct reports as required for decision-making or priority-setting.

Develop individual onboarding plans for new team members in partnership with the Project Liaison Team Leader, ensuring successful, rapid onboarding and contribution to the team.

Who we are looking for:

- Masters level university degree, or equivalent qualification, in Mechanical Engineering

- At least 10 years of progressive engineering leadership experience across multiple assignments, ideally with 5 years' experience in Automotive or Material/Mining Industry or alternatively in a regulated industry.

- Deep technical mastery in the relevant field of expertise, evidenced by publications, patents or other technical achievements.

- Technical experience and/or background in the execution of engineering projects (of specialties above mentioned) and relevant experience and understanding in the execution of industrial projects in operational environments.

- Knowledge of EHS standards, industry good practices, and legal requirements applicable to the specialty of focus.

- Computer literate with strong working knowledge of the MS Office package especially Excel, PowerPoint & Word.

- Must have the Knowledge, Experience, and Skills to conduct their tasks in accordance with the rules and procedures set down.
