This leadership position oversees the Compliance Function, serving as the crucial second line of defense in managing regulatory compliance risk. As the Head of Compliance, you will be at the forefront of evaluating and steering our regulatory compliance management (RCM) framework. Your mission is to ensure our day-to-day controls are not only adequate and adhered to but also highly effective in meeting regulatory requirements across the enterprise. Through independent monitoring and rigorous testing, you will provide expert insights on the robustness of our RCM controls.What you'll be doing:Management of the Compliance Function• Which includes privacy and anti-money laundering accountabilities• Manage a small team of compliance professionals• Foster a productive compliance culture in the team and across C1.Management of the Regulatory Compliance Management program• Development and delivery of Central 1's RCM program including the tracking of regulatory change, maintenance of regulatory inventory, evaluation of controls and risk assessments • Monitor, evaluate, document and report on compliance risk and compliance status, including instances of material non-compliance to Central 1 management and the Board• Interact with regulators including managing compliance reviews and investigations• Liaising with internal and external auditors in relation to compliance matters• Oversee AML and privacy controls operated by the Compliance Function• Advise Management on the development, communication and oversight of Central 1's regulatory compliance management framework • Oversee compliance testing and acting as a point of escalation for issues and actions• Oversee the development and maintenance of Central 1's compliance policies, standards, guidelines and procedures designed to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements• Oversee the Central 1's compliance training programs• Develop and deliver the Compliance Work Plan, in alignment with C1's strategic plan• Establish relationships with industry peer groups to ensure Central 1 continues to follow industry best practicesAdvisor and subject matter expert on compliance matters:• Advise management and the Board on compliance matters, including AML/ATF, ABC, privacy and financial institution legislation, regulation and guidance• Provide strategic direction to the management team on compliance What you'll have:10+ years experience in the compliance and/or legal function of a credit union, bank or financial market infrastructureLaw degree preferable. Preferably called to the bar in British Columbia or OntarioStrong working knowledge of legislation, regulation and guidance applicable to banks, credit unions and trust company's including AML/ATF, privacy and financial institutions regulationExperience implementing a program to comply with OSFI Guideline E13Strong understanding of regulatory compliance best practices in a financial institution environment and risk management expectations of financial institutions regulatorsExperience interacting with regulatorsSolid people management experienceDemonstrated ability to apply pragmatic solutions in developing and implementing compliance frameworksExcellent leadership, communication, influencing, training and presentation skills are mandatory as well as the ability to interact effectively with varied skill sets across the organization.Ability to work collaboratively, think practically and use sound judgment.Ability to work independently and reliably under tight time frames in a fast-paced environment. Salary: $156,200 The salary represents the job rate determined for the successful candidate who is fully competent in the role.
