Job details

Since 1992, Tree Canada has worked relentlessly to grow Canada's tree canopy through its greening programs, research, and engagement efforts. They are the only national non-profit organization dedicated to planting and nurturing trees in rural and urban environments. Tree Canada's track record of collaborating with all levels of government, the urban forestry sector, business partners, and community groups uniquely positions them to engage Canadians in the fight against climate change. Together they plant millions of trees each year, helping to grow resilient ecosystems and healthier, greener communities across Canada. At this important juncture, fuelled by the recognition of our planetary urgency and the collective efforts of Tree Canada's supporters - from valued sponsors and donors to local partners and staff - their growing team of 30 employees has developed an ambitious three-year plan to guide the organization's work moving forward. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the newly created role of Chief Program Officer (CPO) will oversee the successful implementation of all Tree Canada's reforestation, restoration and greening projects, in both rural and urban settings. Specifically, the CPO will contribute to the overall strategy, direction and program development of the organization and work to expand Tree Canada's overall capacity across the country while fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. The CPO will also lead and cultivate high impact relationships with partners, funders, and sponsors, and stay abreast of leading trends and initiatives that may amplify Tree Canada's mission and reach. This executive role has the rare opportunity to contribute to making a positive impact on a meaningful scale. The ideal candidate for the CPO position will be a passionate, solutions-focused, and strategic leader with superior skills in program management and demonstrated expertise in a sector related to reforestation, forestry, restoration, climate and/or resources management. The successful candidate will leverage their intellectual curiosity to solve problems, deliver on ambitious commitments, develop new initiatives and foster productive partnerships at all levels with government, municipalities, Indigenous communities, conservation authorities, not-for-profits, and the private sector. With a solid blend of interpersonal, strategic, project management and relationship-building skills, combined with a deep commitment to partnering with Indigenous communities across the country, the ideal candidate will be poised to drive Tree Canada towards greater impact while championing its mission of improving lives by planting trees and addressing climate change. French language skills will be considered a strong asset. To Apply To fill this position, Tree Canada has partnered with leadership advisory firm Odgers Berndtson.
