For our client, Avantium, an aspiring world leader in renewable and sustainable chemistry technology solutions, we are looking for a Corporate Development Director.Avantium is a pioneer in the emerging industry of renewable and sustainable chemistry. Avantium is headquartered in Amsterdam, employing approximately 200 people, with extensive R&D laboratories and three pilot plants in Geleen and Delfzijl, the Netherlands. They are an innovation-driven company dedicated to developing and commercializing breakthrough technologies for the production of chemicals from renewable sources and circular plastic materials used for a variety of consumer products. Their lead product is PEF, a novel, plant-based and recyclable plastic material with a powerful combination of environmental and performance features. PEF has huge potential in the packaging, textiles and film sectors, growing markets worth over $200 billion. PositionIn this position you will be seen as a valued sparring partner to the CFO and Management Board as well as the leadership teams of the business units. You will be responsible for developing and executing the long-term strategy of the company to ensure successful implementation. This includes the short- and long-term funding of the company and its various activities.Next to the above:Taking ownership of the long-term strategy of the company, and specifically the continuous monitoring of the question "what kind of company do we want to be?"Working together with Finance and the BU leadership teams to develop a 5-year financial/ financing plan for the company.Leading strategy sessions the MB and MT.Coordinating capital raising and other strategic and funding projects.Supporting the grants/subsidies activities of the company, ensuring that the company is positioned to pursue all relevant initiatives as well as monitoring our participation in existing grant programs.Support in the structuring of licensing deals, including if relevant joint ventures, NewCo's, etc with licensees as part of the implementation of the license strategy.ProfileOur client is looking for a professional with expertise in debt and capital structuring advisory, strategy, funding, and deal execution. A hands-on strategist who prioritizes collaboration alongside substantive contributions. Moreover, you are capable of operating at the Board and RvC levels, providing both support and constructive challenges.University degree - MBA or equivalentMinimum 10 years working experience, preferable from an investment bank or corporate development role in the (sustainable) chemicals industry. Global experience is highly preferred.Track record of creating impact in strategy and financing, developed over years of experience in corporate development activities and increasing level of responsibility.Strong analytical skill, ability to analyse different/conflicting data points and reach a clear conclusion or recommendation - and proven experience on executing thereon.Experience with process ownership, including process design and execution of processes across an entire value chain, preferably strategy processes.Clear and influential communicator, both oral and written. Ability to formulate complex ideas in a simple and "to-the-point" way.Ability to establish credibility and form relationships across multiple areas and levels of an organization. Flexible with the ability to embrace change, as well as drive and lead change.Ability to lead, manage and influence to gain alignment, agreement, and commitments.
