Magdrive is hiring an electrical test systems engineer, to help develop and test the next generation of spacecraft propulsion. The Magdrive thruster will deliver unmatched thrust and efficiency, enabling entirely new industries in satellite servicing, orbital assembly and interplanetary transport. You will play a pivotal role as one of the early employees of Magdrive, which brings enhanced freedom, responsibility and potential for career growth. The solutions you develop will directly shape the development of the Magdrive propulsion system and have a significant impact on the future of space travel. Your role will be developing the support equipment that helps verify the functionality of the thruster; this will be for the electronics teams primarily, but also assisting the mechanical and physics teams as required. The work will range from small scale PCB verification equipment to fully automated thruster test rigs. Location: Hybrid remote and Harwell Innovation Campus, Oxfordshire Responsibilities

  • Support the CTO [and Senior test systems electrical engineer] with the development and maintenance of test equipment and software, to verify the functionality of electronic and mechanical subcomponents of the propulsion system.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including relevant teams to ensure effective testing processes.
  • Execute test plans for prototypes and flight hardware, ensuring adherence to quality standards and project timelines.
  • Develop and implement electrical diagnostics for experiments, including electrical, magnetic, and particle probes.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for troubleshooting and resolving test equipment issues.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in electrical testing methodologies and technologies.
Requirements Essential:
  • Educated to Degree level within in electrical engineering or similar discipline.
  • 5+ years practical experience with embedded systems and PCB testing within a similar industry.
  • Extensive Programming experience.
Desirable:
  • Experience with space hardware and equipment.
  • Experience in circuit and PCB design.
  • Experience with pulsed power and high voltage (1 - 5 kV) electronics.
  • Experience with CAD (electrical and mechanical).
  • Experience with test systems portfolios, such as National Instruments.
