Head of Application Development

Head of Application Development Eclipse Trading is one of Asia's leading proprietary derivatives trading firms. Founded in 2007, we have over 120 employees across four office locations – Hong Kong (our HQ), Sydney, Shanghai and Chicago. Our trading expertise and strategies are deployed across several Asian markets and although we mainly specialise in equity derivatives, we also trade delta one, ETFs, commodity derivatives, and crypto currency products. Technology is inextricably linked to our trading strategies, creating an environment powered by intellectual curiosity, problem solving, and innovation. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Application Development to lead our UI Team, Trading Systems Team, Rapid Application Team, and Frameworks Team. As the Head of Application Development, you will be responsible for managing and directing the development, enhancement, and maintenance of our trading systems, ensuring their stability, performance, and reliability. You will lead a team of talented developers (approx. 28 staff), provide technical guidance, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to drive the organization's trading system strategy and deliver cutting-edge solutions that support the trading, risk management, and operations functions. This role is preferably based in Hong Kong and report to the CTO. Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement the technology roadmap for our trading system, aligning it with the business objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and manage a team of technologists, including the UI Team, Trading Systems Team, Rapid Application Team, and Frameworks Team to deliver high-quality solutions that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our trading operations and business.
• Oversee the development, enhancement, and maintenance of our trading systems, ensuring they meet high standards of stability, performance, and user experience.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, including traders, analysts, and business leaders, to understand requirements and translate them into technical requirements and actionable plans.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to the development teams, ensuring the use of appropriate technologies, tools, and frameworks for trading system development.
• Drive the adoption of best practices and industry standards for trading system development, including scalability, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the development teams. Serve as a role model to support cross-team efforts and model collaborative behaviours.
• Ensure effective communication and collaboration across teams, promoting cross-team knowledge sharing and best practices.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies, market trends, and advancements in trading systems, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
• Collaborate with the IT leadership team and wider Senior Management group to define the organization's trading system strategy, goals, and roadmap.
• Monitor and evaluate team performance, provide feedback, and identify training and development needs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the development teams.
• Create and promote a culture of strong and accountable staff leadership including the fostering of the concepts of respect, trust, accountability and development. Inspire the teams to bring forward ideas and solutions to empower the people to accelerate for business success.
• Define the manpower strategy to adequately deliver all technology initiatives while maintaining a high degree of flexibility to account for various business operating scenarios.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in technology leadership roles within the financial services industry, preferably with a focus on trading systems, OR Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Trader/Quant Lead at a High Frequency Trading Firm along with a solid IT understanding.
• Strong technical background with an advanced understanding in trading systems, UI development, rapid application development, and software frameworks.
• In-depth knowledge of Equity Derivatives products, trading workflows, risk management principles and related technologies.
• Experience with industry-leading trading systems and tools, such as electronic trading systems, algorithmic trading, order management systems, and market data feeds.
• Familiarity with trading regulations and compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering high-quality and reliable trading systems.
• Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a passion for driving innovation and continuous improvement.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex trading system projects on time and within budget.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
