As an RSPCA Southern NSW Inspector , based ideally in Queanbeyan, you will ensure guidance and education is provided to animal owners and conduct investigations into matters concerning animal welfare.    Working remotely as part of a larger team, you will service regions across the southern region of NSW.   Why work for us?

About RSPCA With over 500 staff, RSPCA NSW works with the community to prevent cruelty to animals. This is carried out through the shelters and veterinary hospitals dedicated to treating, rehabilitating and rehoming animals as well as through various education program's. About the Role  Covering areas across NSW, you will be required to:
  • Investigate animal cruelty complaints 
  • Provide guidance to animal owners on animal husbandry and standards of animal care
  • Perform animal rescues, captures and assess animal welfare environments
  • Understand relevant legislation (Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979)
  • Effectively communicate with members of the public, media, external agencies and all stakeholders
  • Promote animal welfare consistently
  • Undertake routine inspections relevant to regulated animal trades and codes of practice
  • Prepare enforcement documents including cautions, penalty infringement notices and briefs of evidence
This role is Monday to Friday with a rotating weekend shift. Some travel and overnight stays may be required on an as need basis.    About You You will have the confidence to interact with both individuals and groups and will posses strong time management and organisational skills, in addition to:
  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations/equivalent experience or a willingness to obtain certification
  • Current unrestricted NSW drivers licence
  • Demonstrated animal handling skills, including domestic animals, livestock and/or native animal species
  • Previous law enforcement or investigative experience
  • Ability to understand and interpret legislative requirements and officer powers under POCTAA
  • Able to perform physical duties including manual handling, up to 20kg
  • Eligibility to hold a NSW Firearms Licence
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • High levels of computer literacy
