About the Role As the Legal Practice Manager (Native Title and Litigation)of the Northern Land Council (NLC), you will play a key role in the delivery of culturally competent legal services to the NLC and its constituents to secure, protect and advance native title rights over land, sea and waters. With support from the senior legal leadership team, you’ll lead a team of lawyers passionate about seeking justice for native title holders. This role will collaborate with external legal counsel on complex litigation cases, coordinate with other legal practice managers to enhance operational efficiency, and prepare budgets and funding applications. Additionally, the position will provide advice on governance requirements, review operational policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with reporting obligations. About the NLC Cultural knowledge and lived experience are central to the work we do here at NLC. The NLC was established 50 years ago under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth) to assist Aboriginal people in the Top End of the NT to acquire and manage their traditional lands, waters and seas. We are committed to enhancing Aboriginal peoples social, political and economic participation by supporting their aspirations and amplifying their voices on a range of issues impacting on their lands, seas, culture and communities.  What you will Bring
  • High level cross cultural, interpersonal and verbal communication skills with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Good attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Sound time management and organisational skills with ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong supervisory skills to effectively lead and support a team.
In addition to this you will have:
  • Bachelor of Law and admission to legal practice in a Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia.
  • At least five (5) years post‐admission experience in native title, resources and energy, litigation, corporate and commercial or environment and planning law.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in the management and development of a small team.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and the laws affecting the NLC and its constituents.
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence and the ability and willingness to undertake remote travel in a manual 4WD vehicle or light aircraft.
