The psychiatrist will focus on identifying and treating mental disorders by using a combination of biological, psychological and social treatment modalities. The incumbent will provide safe, quality, and compassionate patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the ByWard Family Health Team.RESPONSIBILITIES:Conduct initial patient assessments and take detailed medical histories by evaluating their emotional, behavioural, and mental state through discussion, observation, and analysisDiagnose, treat, and help prevent psychiatric disorders based on symptoms and prior medical treatmentTreat psychiatric conditions using a conservative approach, which should include CBTExplain treatment plans to patients (and to their parents or guardians) and provide an individualized and/or familial treatment planEmphasis of treatment would include working individually with a patient using a variety of management, rehabilitative and psychotherapeutic techniquesMay act as consultants to other physicians by working with psychologists, social workers or mental health workers to identify factors that contribute to mental health problems in a community and design preventative programsESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:Registered with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and Canadian Psychiatric AssociationMedical Degree with specialization in PsychiatryKnowledge of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitation principles and techniquesExperience providing psychiatric care to patients of all agesKnowledge of medication appropriate for both children and adults and their side-effectsFamiliarity with EMR/CHR systemsExcellent communication skillsBilingual (French/English) is an assetACCOUNTABILITYStaff are expected to work in a professional manner, demonstrating above average qualities such as courtesy, tact, and judgment with respect to patients, fellow colleagues, and professionals.
