Job Description

Te Kāika is looking for an experienced Social Worker on a Full-Time (1FTE) position to work with mokopuna, whānau and kaitiaki in our whānau care service.

About the Role

Our core service is to support whānau, kaitiaki and mokopuna. Your main role is making sure whānau and mokopuna receive the support they need. 

  • Makes initial contact with family 
  • Work with agencies toward “handovers” for families transitioning to further support 
  • Actively liaises for the purpose of safety and accountability in all services
  • Maintains a child centered focus
  • Supports and monitors safety and risk management.
  • Supports families to identify goals/outcomes 
  • Identify dynamic risk factors within the family environment and work to mitigate these
  • Holds key strategic relationships with relevant NGO's 
  • Engages in regular supervision and professional development opportunities.

Skills and experience

  • A tertiary qualification in social work or other relevant qualification
  • Proven experience of working in the Māori community is preferable
  • Proven experience of working with mokopuna and whānau is preferable
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work in a team and build positive relationships in our community
  • Values diversity
  • Able to manage casework with competing priorities
