We have an exciting opportunity for an Accounts Assistant to join the newly established Finance and Assurance team. This team was created to bring in-house a currently outsourced set of accounting services. He kōrero mō mātou | About us He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent Crown entity that drives climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand. We provide independent, impartial advice to the Government on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, and we monitor and review the Government's progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals. Since establishing in December 2019, we have released advice on the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme, agricultural emissions pricing, the foundational Inaia tonu nei: a low emissions future, which included advice on the country's first three emissions budgets and the first emissions reduction plan. Te Tūranga | The role's The Accounts Assistant will perform routine parts of the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as well as other general accounting duties. Ngā herenga | This role will involve The Accounts Assistant role will involve:

  • Processing basic and routine functions related to accounts payable and/or accounts receivable and general accounting duties, including invoicing, payment advice, performing bank reconciliations, compiling debtor statements and statutory returns and preparing related documentation and correspondence.
  • Support the development and completion of procurement planning and implementation.
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations as part of month end and year end process and assisting with the preparation of the annual financial statements.
  • Supporting the wider commission with finance related questions
He kōrero mōu | About you To be considered for this role you will have:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Growing knowledge of an organisation's accounting procedures.
  • Understanding of spreadsheets, data analysis and reconciliation procedures.
  • Strong administrative and procedural skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated high levels of integrity.
  • An understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and Te Ao Māori.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly effective planning and organisational skills, including time management and prioritising work in a complex work environment.

The ideal candidate for this role will be Wellington based. The full salary range for this role is $ 63,040 - $ 94,560. We expect that the successful applicant's starting salary will be in the lower two thirds of this range.
