Location: Auckland or Wellington, New Zealand Do you want to apply your economics, financial analysis, policy and modeling skills to solve the world’s most complex infrastructure challenges?
- Influence the New Zealand debates on policy, competition, strategy and regulation
- Help reduce emissions in developing countries by:
- Assessing the financial and economic viability of low-carbon technologies
- Developing roll-out plans and funding strategies to bring solar-powered mini-grids to remote communities
- Develop and implement funding strategies to help rebuild infrastructure in war-affected countries like Ukraine
- Design tariff structures that enable timely crucial investment by water and energy utilities, while ensuring affordability and simplicity for customers
- Projects in New Zealand, but also in developed and developing countries in Asia-Pacific and beyond
- Large-scale international projects involving multiple economies, as well as small-scale projects that help specific communities or organizations
- Getting direct exposure to present and discuss your insights with clients.
- A degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Engineering Science, Law or Applied Mathematics
- At least one year of relevant experience (not required for graduate applicants)
- Able to pick up concepts and frameworks and apply them in a creative way
- Able to innovate, think laterally, and solve complex problems
- Quantitative skills in Excel or other similar software
- Knowledge, or demonstrated ability to pick up knowledge, in microeconomics and/or finance
- Native-level fluency in English, including the ability to synthesize complex issues clearly and concisely in written and spoken English.
- Proficient skills in the Microsoft suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Willing to travel internationally
- Work authorization in New Zealand.
- At least two to three years of relevant work experience and demonstrated ability to build microeconomic or financial models (financial planning and simulation models which report all three financial statements – Income and Expenditure, Balance sheet and Cash Flow Statement)
- Knowledge of at least one of the Energy, Transportation, Telecommunications, Water and Sanitation, and Natural Resources sectors.
- Knowledge of corporate finance or project finance
- Demonstrated progress toward a CFA qualification
- Additional degree in a related field
- Strong grasp of microeconomics
- Previous professional experience in the private sector (consulting, engineering, or investment firm), or the public sector (regulators, Ministries, or agencies that cover economic policy, finance, energy, planning, environment and climate change)
- Proficiency in other languages, in particular, Bahasa Indonesia, Māori, Mongolian, Russian, Samoan, Tagalog, Tahitian, Tongan, and Vietnamese.
