Due to growth across our group, we are seeking a Commercial Manager to join our Northern Territory Team.

Reporting directly to the Executive General Manager – Northern Territory, candidate’s primary responsibility would be to ensure adequate and appropriate internal controls for proper commercial management are in place and are properly used across the customer stream. A key function of this role will be to drive risk management and compliance with systems and process within the stream and contribute to the continuous improvement of Company systems and process. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, take pride in their work, have attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. About the role:

This role will include, but is not limited to:
  • Provide leadership to all staff within the customer stream on best practice commercial management of projects including championing the use of existing, and leading change management with respect to new, Company systems and process
  • Audit and report on the use of commercial systems and processes within the Customer Stream
  • Identify and support systemic changes in the contract management areas to ensure consistency of practices
  • Build staff and organisational capacity, add value through supporting robust contract and performance management processes
  • Design and manage a centralised contract management system ensuring all information is in place and current
  • Lead and enforce the proper use of systems and processes related to project and commercial management by all project teams within the relevant area including working with the Commercial Advisors to champion systems and troubleshoot issues
  • As part of the project start-up, assist setting up the commercial and contract processes and procedures for all the business unit projects
  • Deliver training on commercial management issues and systems and process to Commercial Advisors and others in the project teams as required
  • Ensure lessons learned processes are conducted for all projects and participate in such processes for loss-making projects in the customer stream and ensure important lessons learned are shared across the business
  • Undertake and assist others in the customer stream undertaking, negotiations with customers and subcontractors with respect to contract terms, variations, quality issues and any disputes or potential disputes with a view to early resolution
  • Review final head contracts issued by clients to ensure negotiated terms are captured and arrange execution
  • Ensure highest level of integrity and confidentiality of the contract process and proper adherence to Company’s policies and procedures
  • Assist in implementation of new subcontractor/supplier engagement process including taking steps to have existing subcontractors and suppliers set up in the new system
  • Manage live register of all subcontract/supplier agreements and ensure all the agreements are up to date and all insurances are current
  • Projects are reported, regular project meetings are held and projects are set up with, and maintain, appropriate processes for budgeting, cost tracking and forecasting
  • Manage progress claims and variation claims in a timely manner
  • Oversee (and conduct where necessary) the performance of contract administration activities including preparing and issuing variations, notices of delays, extension of time and progress claims, and invoices once draft claims are approved
  • Mentor, lead and support all Commercial Advisors and as necessary others in the project team in performing commercial functions
  • Assist in development of annual budget & forecasting for the Customer Stream

  • Have strong work ethic and ability to relate well to both work colleagues within a team environment and external parties
  • Must have understanding of commercial and project risk management
