We are a credit reporting agency and data-driven business information and business-decisioning solutions company. Our mission is to help businesses make informed and verified decisions to drive business growth by leveraging on data analysis. We are a fast-paced, growing start-up and are looking for a Data Architect who has experience with designing, building, and managing enterprise data and reporting platforms from scratch. You will have the opportunity to be part of a dynamic team and take ownership of the data architecture for our company. With a unique opportunity to shape our data infrastructure from the ground up, we need someone who is excited about the challenge of building something new and has a proven track record of success in similar roles.

Responsibilities

  • Design, document, and implement solutions throughout the data stack, including warehousing, modelling, and business intelligence
  • Play an integral role in developing a company wide data governance program. Responsible for defining, developing, and maintaining effective and efficient data architecture and data ownership. Create and define data infrastructure policies, procedures and processes
  • Coordinate and collaborate with different teams, stakeholders, and vendors for the smooth functioning of the enterprise data system
  • Collaborate with business, product, and engineering leaders to understand business opportunities, help shape and drive the development of data infrastructure, data integration and data warehousing platforms
  • Architect data warehouse with elegant design thinking approach. Develop and automate pipelines and tools to enable streamlined and robust operation
  • Oversee data asset storage, cataloguing, discoverability, and meta-data management
  • Act as subject matter expert on how data flows between systems within the organization and the trade-offs between providing a full BI solution versus enabling ad hoc data analysis
  • Help define and implement monitoring of metrics for measuring data availability, usage, and team efficacy
  • Improve the stability and performance of data infrastructure using operational data and an observability mindset
  • Drive and encourage conversations based on data strategy and engineering principles to create alignment across the team, department, and wider organization
  • Create implementation plans and iterative milestones for architectural decisions and technical initiatives
  • Foster a culture of iterative deployability with awareness of cycle time and failure rates
  • Use a systematic approach to debugging to diagnose issues within the data infrastructure
  • Implement observability solutions and write tests to ensure application quality and stability
  • Ensure code meets defined acceptance criteria and consistently evangelize and educate team members about established best practices
  • Develop a system that enforces style, process, and guidelines for developing a new data model
  • Consistently produce production-ready code that is easily testable, easily understandable, and accounts for edge cases and errors, using comments and other documentation strategies where appropriate
  • Any other task assigned by management

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate or post graduate degree in computer science or a related field of study
  • Preferably a minimum 8 years of relevant working experience
  • To be able to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Self-motivated and independent, able to work with minimum supervision and to work well with stakeholders and project staff
  • A self-starter with a passion for working in a fast-paced and demanding startup environment
  • Work effectively with all other colleagues e.g. from the development team, business analysts, security, risk and compliance
  • Able to translate business priorities and objectives into technical solutions
  • Ability to plan and organize technical work and deliverables
  • Ability to follow guidelines and adhere to the established software development standards
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task across numerous work streams
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong verbal, written, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of best practices through relevant experience across data-related disciplines and technologies particularly for enterprise wide data architectures and data warehousing/BI
  • Applicants must be willing to accept that the default working arrangement is to work in the corporate office of MARC Data
