What You’ll Do M2Gen is hiring a Director of Bioinformatics Research to build and lead a team that provides top-notch bioinformatic analysis and data visualization/utilization support to biopharma clients and academic partners across the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network (ORIEN). This role will provide direct contributions and leadership developing scientific use-cases that demonstrate the value of M2GEN’s unique and comprehensive genomic, transcriptomic, and clinical data. Our current AVATAR offering is the leading data set of its kind, with matched tumor and germline molecular and clinical data covering tens of thousands of cancer patients. These data have been licensed by multiple large pharmaceutical and biotech companies and underpin important work in their Discovery and Development teams. Notably, our data informed the development path of Merck’s pembrolizumab, arguably the most successful oncology product in the world. The Director of Bioinformatics Research works at the junction between the Bioinformatics & Biostatistics group, the Business Development team, and Scientific Affairs supporting biopharma client and ORIEN member interactions through custom bioinformatics analysis and scientific project analysis contributions based on clients’ / members’ needs and interests. Specific duties include bringing your own expert knowledge and perspective, as well as, seeking input from biopharma clients and ORIEN members in order to leverage M2GEN’s unique data offering; generating molecular and clinical data insights for biopharma sponsored research projects and academic research collaborations. Who You Are The ideal candidate will be a respected expert and proven leader in bioinformatics and cancer genomic/transcriptomic/clinical data analysis with demonstrated publications in the field.
- Experience leading high performing bioinformatics teams in cancer genomics research projects
- Track record of independent genomics, transcriptomic, and clinical oncology data analysis, publication of results, and public presentation of findings at national/international oncology-specific conferences
- Interested in the analysis of large genomic datasets
- An expert in NGS analysis for DNAseq and RNAseq genomic datasets and metadata
- An expert with the UNIX/Linux environment and cloud computing
- A solid programmer in Python or other high-level programming language and experienced with R
- PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or other applied science with solid analytical skills
- Three (3) years technical management experience leading a cancer genomics analysis team
- Advanced knowledge of scripting and programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C , and bash/csh/ksh
- Experience running bioinformatic/genomic/transcriptomic analyses
- Ability to apply troubleshooting techniques to resolve complex, cross functional issues
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy
