What will you be doing? Join our team as a key player in managing Risk, Compliance, and Conduct for our operations in NZ & the Pacific. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, you'll play a pivotal role in our Senior Leadership team. Your mission: to foster a robust risk culture within Tower, ensuring our business goals are achieved safely. You'll lead risk management, compliance, and conduct initiatives, collaborating closely with business units on planning, assessment, and executing transformations. Your focus will be on meeting legal and regulatory requirements while putting customer outcomes at the forefront of our operations. You can expect to be across the following:
- Work with the Chief Risk Officer to provide strategic oversight and management of the Risk, Compliance, and Conduct function including enhancing and maintaining the risk management framework across Tower NZ
- Ensure Tower's Board of Directors, Management and employees operate in compliance with regulatory obligations, that company policies and procedures are followed, and that behaviour in the organisation is role modelled for our company's values and principles.
- Support the development, deployment and maintenance of the Three Lines of Defence to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- As a leader of the second line of defense, agree and provide leadership to facilitate quality risk, compliance and assurance activities as required, targeting key risks, controls and projects.
- Lead and develop high-quality risk and compliance professionals who will support and promote Tower's strategic intent.
- Facilitate the implementation of key risk and compliance tools/processes, including Risk Assessment, Controls Self-Assessment, Issues and Incidents Management, and process improvement assessments.
- Stay abreast of environmental changes, including legal and regulatory changes in NZ, that may impact our business and work with relevant Executive Leadership Team and Business Leadership Team members to manage.
- Lead business readiness for changes in the regulatory environment including working with the Head of Corporate Affairs around our corporate reputation. This includes leading changes related to the conduct of financial institutions, including responses to any findings that apply to our sector and organisation.
- Be part of championing the voice of the customer in our organisation, ensure we are acting at all times in an ethical manner.
- 5+ years' experience at a senior level in a large and complex environment, with a minimum of 10 years experience in areas such as risk management, compliance, and quality assurance - as this is a small team, you will require technical capabilities in each of these domains.
- You will be a strategically capable leader with a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Customer obsessed with the ability to keep good customer outcomes top of mind in all decision-making activities.
- Extensive experience in enterprise governance and enterprise risk management - risk management strategies and frameworks, risk appetite statements, key risk indicators, material risk registers.
- Prior exposure to working directly with financial services industry regulators is highly valued.
- Exposure to operational partnering environments.
- Understanding of leading information management practices and the use of data in assurance practices to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of risk management activity (data modeling, analytics, AI).
- Strong understanding of the general insurance industry - products, underwriting, and claims management and ability to work with management on commercial solutions in the portfolio.
- Understanding human-centered design principles and project methodologies such as Agile and Lean is advantageous.
