We are looking for a creative and experienced social development and impacts management specialist who wants to be part of creating a long-lasting positive legacy in a diverse and interesting role by thinking beyond and extending his/her knowledge in participatory and sustainable community/ social development processes and programs. The role is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive regulatory and non-regulatory social development and/or performance framework across all mining tenements/projects held by MMCI and its affiliate companies. Specific duties include the following:

  • Work across various projects sites and teams to ensure effective planning, implementation/delivery, monitoring and reporting of social development programs and commitments acting as a champion for socio-cultural awareness across the organization.
  • Develop a system for coordinating, tracking, and managing internal and external social/community development programs ensuring timely delivery and alignment to relevant sustainable development goals.
  • Provide strategic support in obtaining and maintaining relevant mining permits, licenses, and/or certifications.
  • Develop and implement proactive systems that aim to prevent and manage social impacts/issues.
  • Evaluate, advise and stay current with emerging social/community issues or compliance regulations that may impact company operations.
  • Serve as a technical /subject matter expert for community/social questions, concerns and compliance issues. This includes performing any necessary research and providing solutions in a written or verbal format and serving as an adviser on social/community concerns.
  • Represent the company before government agencies in social/community matters.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years relevant work experience
  • A graduate of any social/community development relevant courses
  • Knowledge and understanding of key M&E concepts, tools and approaches.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience working in remote communities, particularly indigenous peoples and sound understanding of relevant statutory social development programs within the context of mining would be advantageous
