About this role We are looking for a Sr. Backend Engineer to join our backend engineering team. As a Sr. Engineer at Unacademy, you'll help learners build mastery regardless of where they are and whether they are accessing Unacademy on the browser, Android, or iOS. You'll help build cutting-edge infrastructure to enable students of all backgrounds to succeed on high-stakes assessments like the UPSC and IIT. Ultimately, you'll be part of helping millions of learners to unlock their full potential. We are looking for smart, dynamic individuals with outstanding programming skills and a great passion for developing beautiful, innovative software. What to expect in this role:
- Working closely with software engineers and other engineering managers to architect, develop, and deliver the best solutions.
- Help teams to scale distributed systems, make architectural trade-offs, review code, and deliver with speed and quality.
- Contribute to building scalable, high-performing tech infrastructure
- Apply modern best practices in your designs and implementations
- Collaborate with other engineers to prioritize and ship features.
- Mentor junior engineers
- Partner with Product Managers to scope and estimate new work
- 3+ years of engineering experience
- We use Python, Django & Golang throughout the business but welcome experience in different programming languages.
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, design, and architecture patterns
- Experience with distributed systems and high throughput services.
- Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience with transactional RDBMS such as MySQL, Postgres, MS SQL Server, or Oracle
- Experience with high-volume, low-latency architectures.
- Ability to Influence teammates with development strategy.
- Strong communication skills - including the ability to listen to the needs of others and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues clearly and concisely, and present effectively in both oral and written presentations to all levels in the organization.
- Team-oriented approach – can effectively lead a team and mentor junior engineers.
