Position Summary: A successful candidate would optimally possess both Field Applications Scientist and Field Bioinformatics Scientist attributes. This hybrid role will provide applications (installation, system validation, customer training) and bioinformatics support, including informatics support, training, and guidance for Illumina software solutions. The role will also require contribution to large-scale district projects and liaison with both internal and external stakeholders during the project development and implementation process. Position Responsibilities:
  • Coordinating and executing installations including facility inspections, instrument validation, and customer training
  • Troubleshooting issues related to experimental design, software and instruments
  • Helping resolve elevated issues through engagement with the District Field Specialist team 
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers
  • Supporting sales efforts through technical presentations and customer management
  • Acting as a critical contributor of customer feedback to marketing and product development teams
  • Providing or assisting front-line support teams with onsite and remote customer training and onboarding
  • Developing and improving key company processes that support our mission of building a world-class customer support organization
The listed responsibilities are an essential but not exhaustive list of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs. Position Requirements:
  • 3 to 5 years biotech experience preferred
  • Prior field experience supporting customers using sequencing technologies preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of sequencing data analysis software applications preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with next generation sample preparation technologies and protocols preferred
  • Experience in clinical next-generation sequencing applications preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with instrumentation such as liquid handling robotics and optical scanners preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with an existing cloud-based genomics platform solution, including building and troubleshooting bioinformatics workflows and pipelines preferred
  • Competence in R, Perl, Python or other scripting language in CLI environment commonly used in bioinformatic pipelines preferred
  • Competence in web development tools and languages including Python, JavaScript, CWL, JSON, SQL preferred
  • Outstanding problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication
  • Clear vision of and commitment to providing outstanding customer service
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%
