Job Title : Programme Lead in Global Health Reporting to: Medical Director and the Membership Committee Base : Remote. Appointee will be expected to attend meetings at ICGP Offices, Lincoln Place, Dublin 2 as required Contract type : Part-time, fixed term. Maximum 3 years Hours per week : Two sessions / One day per week Closing date : Friday 24th May - 5pm   About the Irish College of GPs The Irish College of General Practitioners is the postgraduate training body (PGTB) responsible for postgraduate education, training and research in the specialty of General Practice. The College has a national advisory role in relation to medical standards and engages with the Medical Council, Department of Health and Children, the Health Service Executive and the Health Information & Quality Authority among others. As a membership organisation, the College is responsible for providing and supporting the continuous professional development for general practitioners, numbering over 4,000. It is the PGTB accredited by the Medical Council to provide professional training for doctors wishing to enter the specialty of general practice. The ICGP is an equal opportunities employer. Please email hr@icgp.ie to discuss any accommodations required.   Job Purpose The objective of the College's Global health initiative is to foster engagement and partnership within the global health landscape and to enhance the global health education, awareness and participation of our members. This role is responsible for leading and developing the College's role and contribution to the development of primary care in low income countries.   Key Result Areas (KRA's)

  1. Lead and develop the College's role and contribution Integral to this objective is the development of e-learning resources for healthcare workers in primary care workers in designated countries.
  2. Lead, encourage and develop education initiatives for Irish general practice staff on global health.
  3. Develop training opportunities for Irish GP Trainees in areas of global health.
  4. Lead and manage the writing of funding submissions for education and research in the area of global health as agreed with your line manager.
  5. Promote and encourage the integration of the programme into College activities This includes but not exclusively committee/working group participation. The programme lead will also contribute directly to the work of other College programmes/projects as relevatn within the time commitment available.
  6. Manage Web based resources. Review and update web based resources and as needed innovate new resources. Ongoing appraisal of effective communication modalities around our global health programme, including College website, Ezine, social media platforms and Forum; consistent with the College's communications strategy. Relaunch and contribute the content for the global health newsletter.
  7. Collaborative work with other ICGP programmes and activities. Contribute to the core work of College through collaboration with other programme directors, clinical leads and College management and staff- contribution of experience as a GP but also bringing the global health perspective to the planning of the delivery of supports to members across the full spectrum of the College's remit. This to include College's national and regional events and conferences. As and when required, contribute to the other College activities including representation.
  8. Represent the College's global health programme externally. Contribution to submissions to external agencies and when invited participation in presentation on submissions.
  9. The programme will also undertake to fulfil the various roles, tasks, engagements, correspondence, publications and specified tasks (which may be altered from time to time) and will include attendance at and participation in College meetings and conferences, provision of statistical data in relation to the programme, submission of reports to the Membership Committee, regular liaison with Medical Directorate, contribution to Forum and the College ezine to promote the programme and also highlight areas and subject matter that is of direct relevance.
  Person specification  The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, expertise and competencies: Qualifications & experience
  • Be a medically qualified health professional, holding the MICGP qualification (or equivalent) and be a current College member in good standing for the duration of the post.
  • Be enrolled on and in compliance with the Professional Competence Scheme
  • Concurrently hold a part time clinical appointment equivalent to a minimum of four sessions of clinical general practice per week
  • Be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland on the Specialist Division for general practice.
  • Demonstrate a track record of managing and implementing projects in global health.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of global health and international medical issues.
  Desirable
  • 3 - 5 years of postgraduate medical experience in general practice.
  • Demonstrated successful and innovative leadership and management in global health and primary care.
  • Publication of peer reviewed research in relevant areas of care would be beneficial. 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and develop collaborative working relationships with other organisations.
  • Some involvement in delivery / design of healthcare/GP education would also be an advantage.
  Behavioural competencies
  • Be a self-starter with high motivation and the ability to work flexibly on own initiative.
  • Possess excellent wtrie and verbal communication skills.
  • At ease with presentations both remote and in person.
