Overview – Global Health and Safety Team: The Global HSE Team’s purpose is to support Dyson to create a safe working environment for all Dyson staff wherever thay may work, a safe experience for customers and to ensure we minimise our impact of the environment. We achieve this by providing HSE Governance & Assurance for the organsiation, supporting integration of HSE into business areas, building HSE capability across all business teams and, by encouraging and supporting continuous improvement in HSE. The Head of Health, Safety & Environment APAC will lead our teams in APAC (functional and operational) through our transformation of Health, Safety & Environmental at dyson to embed HSE into “How we work”. Overview – Role: You will act as the APAC HSE Business Partner and as a topic subject matter expert (SME). You will manage the HSE support to the organisation (both the HSE community and the business groups) via a team of HSE Managers, drawing on their personal subject matter expertise. There is an over riding expectation that as a HSE professional you will undertake any other role related task as outlined by the Global Health and Safety Director. Manager/leader of Senior HSE Managers/HSE advisors and/or SMEs at sites in APAC.

  • You will Provide direction to ensure both the site and wider regional H&S priorities are appropriately prioritised and supported.
  • Use a combination of coaching and mentoring so ensure that SMEs are successful and effective at driving improvement in HSE performance at a regional and site level.
  • Support the development of team members to achieve both personal growth and succession in the business.
  • Collaborate to ensure the site resource provides their functional expertise via an HSE matrix across the company.
  • Support HSE Managers to delve into the community of HSE champions (embedded in other business roles).
  • This role requires the individual to strike the perfect harmony of leading the team and tactial delivery (Hands on).
Partnering with key stakeholders to develop close working relationships is key in order that you may understand business priorities, provide support & HSE advice and develop strategies to integrate HSE activities into ways of working that achieve continual improvement in HSE performance. In addition to being a capable HSE Professional, you will be able to demonstrate a curiosity around technology, a willingness to embrace change, diversity and business partnering. You will be cool in a crisis, attuned to risk and open to support peers. You will ensure HSE advice and oversight on our new projects and activities to ensure we design HSE into facilities and build our “ways of working” from conception (HSE by Design philiosphy). Support site HSE communities to ensure the management undertake effective consultation with employees on HSE matters. Be the 1st point of contact for site leaders and lead the matrix of HSE professionals to provide timely responses to meet our needs. Liaiase with other Managers to ensure a consistent approach and implementation of HSE management systems: Topic Subject Matter Expert (SME) Act as an SME for a specific area of HSE and provide matrix support to the wider Global HSE team. This would include:
  • Maintaining a high level of competence in your specialism so that you are a recognised expert.
  • Support the HSE function and Business Leaders to understand the risks associated with the specialism and activities in place to assure mitigation of the risks.
  • Horizon scanning for regulatory changes / technology that may impact advice and guidance that is needed to support compliance within Dyson. Anticipate the need to change to prevent any supprises or need to for costly (time / resource or finance) late changes to remain compliant.
  • Support the Glabal HSE team to ensure the specialist area builds an appropriate level of succession within the team to prevent gaps in knowledge with changes to personnel.
  • Developing communication strategies and aligning with site priorities to assure both ongoing knowledge and adaptation to any changes to remain compliance.
  • Lead Communities of Practice (CoP) with both HSE colleagues and business representative to provide regular access to expert advice and expected ways of working.
  • Review and incident data to seek opportunity for continual improvement in the specialist advice, guidance and training.
  • Support investigation of any serious incident or regulatory non compliance in the topic specialism.
  • Undertake oversight audits of compliance with the Dyson standards and regulatory compliance (via both desk top and in-situ observation). Develop plans to address any gaps or opportunities for improvement.
  • Work in partnership with other topic SMEs to develop a consistent high level of matrix support to Dyson business.
Experience:
  • 15 years (min) experience preferably within a research and development or similar environment.
  • Strong subject matter expertise in an aspect of HSE and ideally recognised as an industry expert
  • Strong understanding of HSE Compliance legal frameworks and have the ability and resourcefulness to determine the practical application of the requirements.
  • Successful leadership and coaching experience of subject matter experts.
  • Strong influencing skill and involvement in change management
  • Demonstrable experience of working in global matrix organisation.
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships (internally and externally) to the business and partnership with enforcement officers.
Qualifications:
  • Ideally Educated to degree level in a scientic subject.
  • A recognised Health and Safety qualification* (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent preferrable)
  • Chartered membership of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (CMIOSH) (or equivalent)*
  • Practitioner Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (PIEMA) – Desirable.
* Or actively working towards for exceptional candidates with significant experience and/or qualification. Approach:
  • Whilst ensuring Dyson maintains legal compliance and works towards best practice, the role holder will need to demonstrate flexibility in their approach and maintain a proactive “can do” attitude, and works towards the success of the whole Dyson team and not just the functional area.
  • Be an ambassador, vocal advocate, influencer and presence for HSE management (and the Internantional Standards/systems used to support)
  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to build a network of connections both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work sensitively, discretely, and effectively across Dyson.
  • You will be able to demonstrate a passion for working for Dyson.
