The Principal Consultant will join ABL’s management team, sharing a responsibility for meeting ambitious business growth objectives.

What you will be doing.

The Principal Consultant will be responsible for prospecting, developing and converting consultancy assignment opportunities. Subsequently, the Principal Consultant will work on and manage consultancy assignments for a range of onshore renewables projects. The incumbent will manage the teams of multi-disciplined engineers or consultants in order to deliver our scopes of work and achieve financial targets. The following are the key responsibilities and duties will apply as a guide:
  • Delivering projects to a high standard to ensure the utmost satisfaction of our Clients and an outstanding quality of deliverable.
  • Leading on proposals and supporting on business development and representing ABL.
  • Managing project key performance indicators including budgets. Managing project teams to ensure optimal delivery of projects.
  • Support in the positive development of our people through mentoring, training, etc.
  • Develop ABL’s suite of renewables products to lead in new markets and new (associated) technologies, building new systems through R&D to give ABL a competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with, support and evolve with other businesses, teams and staff in the ABL Group, networking at all levels within the company, as well as with external bodies and acting as a representative of ABL at industry conferences, seminars, events, etc.
  • Ensure that projects operate in accordance with ABL’s high health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of staff, sub-contractors and any other third parties who may be impacted by our work.
  • Ensure project work and technical quality standards are maintained.
The role is based in Cape Town, South Africa. Candidates must have the right to live and work in the country of application. Please note local and international travel may be required.

What we are looking for.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:
  • 10+ years of experience and passion for onshore wind, solar, or energy storage.
  • Qualified to at least Bachelor or Master degree level in Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • A successful track record of project managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong technology knowledge including players, markets, technology, warranties, etc.
  • Key characteristics include: strong interpersonal skills, self-awareness, attention to detail, strength of character, pragmatism and flexibility. Excellent communication and report writing skills.
Additionally the following would be favourable:
  • Experience in consulting and client management.
  • Experience as Independent Engineer and/or Owner’s Engineer.
  • Experience on other sides of a project (developer, owner, financier, etc.)
  • Knowledge of financing and regulatory mechanisms for renewables.
  • Proficiency in another language (Arabic, Cantonese, French, Mandarin, Portuguese).
