The Clinical Nurse Leader - Diagnostic Ophthalmology is a specialized leader within the innovative care team of the pediatric ophthalmology services within Sidra. The Clinical Nurse Leader - Diagnostic Ophthalmology manages the day to day operations of the pediatric diagnostic ophthalmology imaging services, provides high quality patient care, provides direction to junior members of the team, and supervises and participates in the delivery of the local and national professional agenda within the ophthalmology services at Sidra. The Clinical Nurse Leader - Diagnostic Ophthalmology performs and supervises performances of all ophthalmic photography and diagnostic tests for the evaluation and management of ophthalmology patients. He or she also trains and evaluates clinic staff in the use, interpretation, and troubleshooting of Ophthalmic Diagnostic Equipment and test results. The Clinical Nurse Leader - Diagnostic Ophthalmology participates in Ophthalmic clinical studies and provides diagnostic services for physicians involved in clinical studies. He or she provides professional leadership through a strong visible clinical presence within the Ophthalmology ambulatory care area to provide a safe effective and high quality care environment for Patients and their families. The Clinical Nurse Leader - Diagnostic Ophthalmology is expected to produce reports, upload results into the medical record, provide interpretations to the ophthalmology team, and communicate with patients regarding testing techniques and results as per Departmental protocols Candidates with leadership background and experience in Ophthalmology can apply KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Oversees and manages the Ophthalmology Diagnostic Imaging Service facilities, equipment, and operations. 
  • Acts as subject matter expert in diagnostic ophthalmology acquired through post graduate academic, clinical, leadership and management development.
  • Provides strong and effective leadership and guidance to junior members of the team within the Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology.
  • Teaches, guides, lectures, and trains internal and external groups including patient groups as necessary.
  • Works with senior colleagues to create a working environment based on communication and collaboration. 
  • Performs different clinical tasks including ophthalmic imaging, testing, and patient evaluation as needed. 
  • Involved in the teaching and education of Ophthalmology department employees. 
  • Contributes to the assurance of high standards of clinical care by providing direction, advice and where necessary intervention is requested.
  • Interfaces with vendors and manufacturers to ensure up to date maintenance, training and education, and updating of equipment occurs. 
  • Responsible for the standard of nursing care delivered in work area and promotes interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interest of patients.
  • Works with Division Chief, senior staff and nursing staff to maintain/improve and develop high standards of patient care.
  • Interfaces with the Biomedical Engineering team as necessary to ensure above. 
  • Maintains electronic medical record databases of testing results, stored in a confidential manner.
  • Works closely with the ophthalmic multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of all aspects of evidence based patient centered care in a safe, effective environment and leads in the development of the departmental services.
  • Takes responsibility for the safe use of all testing equipment within the department.
  • Performs patient medical and ophthalmic evaluations when required, using age specific testing techniques that are relevant for use within pediatric ophthalmology.
  • Participates in research studies within the Division of Ophthalmology and in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Performs skilled data capture to facilitate research by Ophthalmology faculty members.
  • Accesses clinical records and databases for research purposes.
  • Meets Sidra’s core measures of performance related to patient care, medical knowledge, practice based learning and improvement, interpersonal communication skills, professionalism, and system based practice.
  • Continually updates and maintains personal levels of clinical skills and competencies acting as a clinical role model.
  • Assesses the learning needs of patients and families, and develops and/or implements teaching programs to meet these identified needs in the hospital or community.

  • Contributes to the implementation of the development of service; is aware of new evidence and research.

  • Participates in Division, Department, Institutional, Regional, and International Ophthalmology meetings as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL PREFERRED Education Bachelor Degree in Nursing (4 years) or Diploma in Nursing (3 years after post high school (12 years)) and Registered Nurse Master’s Degree in Nursing Experience 4+ years of recent clinical nursing experience including 2+ years leadership/supervisory/charge experience in ophthalmology ambulatory care. Experience in an Academic Medical Center. Demonstrated experience with Clinical Information Systems and Hospital Commissioning Certification and Licensure Valid professional nursing license in country of origin Meets licensing requirements of the State of Qatar Post graduate specialty certification Professional Membership Member of a professional nursing association Job Specific Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in performing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and interpreting the following and other equipment:
  • RetCAM Retinal fundus imaging
  • OCT ocular coherence tomography imaging of retina and optic nerve
  • Fundus photography, both mydriatic and non-mydriatic
  • Electrophysiology; ERG, dark adapted testing
  • Visual Field Testing
  • External ophthalmic photography
  • Ocular motility photography
  • Pachymetry
  • Autorefraction
  • B scan ocular imaging
  • A scan ocular imaging and measurement
  • Intraocular lens calculations for cataract surgery
  • Other clinical diagnostics that are integral to the running of a full service Eye Clinic. 
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize extended education, skills and experience in running of a busy ophthalmology ambulatory care facility
  • Demonstrated skills in obtaining ophthalmic imaging testing and in training, supervising, and leading the personnel responsible for the day-to-day administration of these tests
  • Proficiency and advanced understanding of RetCam retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography testing and interpretation, facility with spectral domain optical coherence tomography, in depth knowledge of ocular biometry testing techniques including A scan and B scan, ability to perform, interpret, and trouble shoot visual field testing. 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, search, annotate, and collate ophthalmic imaging studies for research and clinical purposes
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and present Power Point presentations for clinical, research, and education purposes
  • Strong experience in education, and training of others 
  • Strong experience in personnel management
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Ophthalmic imaging
  • Demonstrated ability in providing care for patients in acute and critical care settings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
Demonstrated ability to teach, assess and develop educational materials for staff and patients Arabic speaking and/or bilingual in other languages Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.
