About the Job

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing legal services across the MoneyHero Group, working closely with the General Counsel to manage legal matters, mitigate risks, and contribute to the Group's strategic objectives while successfully managing a small team of legal professionals. The role reports to the General Counsel and will be a very influential and hands-on leadership and supportive role to the team.

The Head of Legal will be responsible for:

  • Leading and managing the Legal Team, fostering a positive team culture and a collaborative and supportive working environment
  • Developing and mentoring team members to ensure high performance and continuous improvement
  • Planning for the department's sustainability under the guidance of the Group’s General Counsel
  • Project Management:

    • Manage legal resourcing for strategic projects and day-to-day operations
    • Assist in significant projects and corporate transactions, including new product development, M&A, divestitures or dissolutions, joint ventures, fundraising
    • To provide expert advice on the management of disputes, litigation, regulatory investigations and other contentious matters and advise on strategies and approaches
  • Strategic Legal Leadership:

    • Develop and drive the implementation of the Group's legal strategy and objectives, including developing new processes and procedures, leveraging on technology
    • Identify and manage legal risks associated with various business activities and the development of new services and products, expansion into new market verticals
    • Supervise and manage external relationships, including effective management of external legal expenditure
  • Contract Drafting and Negotiation:

    • Draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts relating to finance, insurance, technology services and marketing agreements
  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Support the General Counsel in SEC and US securities law compliance requirements
    • Provide advice on regulatory frameworks and legal developments in the industry, including related to insurance, financial services, AML, privacy and data protection
    • Manage breach reporting to regulatory bodies
    • Work closely with the compliance team in analysing and implementing relevant laws and regulations by providing updated agreements, policies, in-house training etc.

In this role, we are looking for someone with:

  • Ideal candidate is a Hong Kong, Singapore or common law qualified lawyer with at least 8 years’ post-qualification legal experience including in-house experience (ideally with a technology or financial services company)
  • Law firm experience (ideally corporate/M&A transactional, or regulatory experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a legal team in a dynamic and multicultural environment, fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Willing to learn, self-motivated, capable of handling matters independently and proactively
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Good to have:

  • Experience in dealing with insider trading, substantial shareholder or regulatory disclosure issues a plus
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations across APAC
  • Experience dealing with regulatory authorities across APAC
  • Proficiency in Chinese, written and verbal, a plus
