The bilingual (French and English) candidate will grow an outstanding, externally funded research program in quantum materials and show potential for successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.The selected candidate will build or expand partnerships and research collaborations within University of Ottawa's Nexus for Quantum Technologies (NexQT) Institute ( https://www.uottawa.ca/research-innovation/quantum-institute ), industry, colleagues in the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering as well as with leading governmental, non-governmental, and educational organizations located in Canada and, especially, in the National Capital Region. The candidate will interact with and complement our current group of materials physics experimentalists and theorists with connections to quantum-focused photonics. The candidate should demonstrate an interest and expertise in epitaxial growth, characterization, and study of 2D materials and heterostructures. In that regard, the candidate will take advantage of and lead a state-of-the-art MOCVD growth facility for 2D materials (Aixtron CCS). The candidate will also benefit from the University of Ottawa's research support facilities providing users with open access to cutting-edge nanofabrication, low temperature, and materials characterization tools.Title of the position: Assistant or Associate ProfessorDuties: The functions of a member of the academic staff include, in varying proportions, bilingual teaching activities, scholarly activities pertaining to research and/or professional work, academic service activities, and supervision of graduate students.Rank and salary: Regular tenure-track academic appointment in the Faculty of Science, with a salary consistent with the collective agreement of the Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa. Exceptional candidates at higher academic ranks are also encouraged to apply. The base salary for assistant professors is $89,622.Requirements:The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Physics or in a related discipline.The candidate is expected to lead a vigorous research program and contribute to teaching in all undergraduate as well as graduate programs in physics.Language: The University of Ottawa is proud to be the largest bilingual (English-French) university in North America, and considers bilingualism to be one of its distinguishing characteristics.
