Position Summary: The Dalio Family Office (DFO) seeks a Science Partnerships for the Asia Pacific (APac) region, based in Singapore, to lead our outreach with scientific and university partners in the Asia Pacific region. The APac Science Lead will lead scientific and technical discussions, vet proposals and cultivate scientific and university relationships in the region. One of the DFO’s leading philanthropies operates the world’s preeminent oceanographic research vessel, the OceanXplorer. The OceanXplorer is a floating research, media, and education platform, built to help OceanX deliver on its mission. Equipped with next-generation technology, the vessel empowers scientists and storytellers to bring back the ocean’s mysteries for the world to explore and serves as a floating university to introduce the next generation of ocean leaders to potential career paths. The vessel is equipped with 2 Triton 3300 manned submersibles (1000M rated), 2 Remote Operated Vehicles (6000M rated), a helicopter, state of the art labs, next gen eDNA sequencing equipment and full acoustic mapping capabilities. The position will engage with various executives across the Dalio portfolio of organizations and help manage scientific and technical activities outside the US (with a focus on SE Asia). The position will require flexible working hours (for meetings with the US) and some amount of regional travel (e.g., Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand). Position Location: Singapore Role Responsibilities:
- Lead scientific conversations with university and science partners in SE Asia
- Establish and cultivate relationships with government representatives, key oceanographers, scientific partners, and other decision-makers
- Review and vet scientific proposals and coordinate with science partners in the region for mission-related and educational projects
- Architect good decisions on how to allocate resources for scientific missions, and helps plan SE Asia activities and projects
- Work with the executive team to create and build-out menu of scientific offerings
- Lead scientific and technical discussions at ocean convenings, events and other client and partner functions
- Continuously communicate and sync-up with internal science and technical teams and executives
- Keep abreast of interests and activities of governments, science NGOs and other partners in the ocean and climate space
- 15+ years of experience in the sciences, with relationships at universities, governments, and NGOs
- Science PhD or comparable degree in the ocean, climate, biological sciences or equivalent
- Considerable experience with business engagement and relationship development activities with the scientific community, governments, educational institutions and other organizations, preferably in Southeast Asia
- Experience in leading and directing teams and complex projects
- Significant technical nous and comfort with advanced technology solutions
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Based in Singapore, but with some amount of travel, mostly in SE Asia (e.g., Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand) and the US
- Highly independent, self-starter
- Ability to think strategically and conceptually
- Comfortable with ambiguity, and the ability to shape partnerships in a variety of ways, navigating that ambiguity
