About the role: In this newly created Network Engineer role you will work closely with our outsourced provider for data centre and network infrastructure as well as our internal Information Security team in the development, implementation and operation of Avant’s network systems. You will ensure data communications and networks are practical and fit-for-purpose and secure. Also, ensure compatibility between selected hardware and software, and maintain network performance.

• Working and upgrading a technology environment which uses legacy systems.
• Working with stakeholders (alongside the Head of IT Operations) who have varying levels of technology experience and literacy, and providing these stakeholders with timely and effective solutions.
• Working with various vendors who have varying managed service responsibilities across the technology landscape.
• Anticipating and responding to challenges related to networks, and then identifying solutions and mechanisms to address these challenges and support the business.
• Balancing tasks and priorities of equal importance in a tight timeframe.
• Balancing demands of numerous stakeholders and effectively managing their expectations.
• Providing a consistent quality of work through periods of rapid pace and change within Avant.

Key requirements for success:

• Knowledge of the insurance or financial sector (preferred).
• Demonstrated experience in analysing, configuring, troubleshooting or designing complex networks.
• Well founded experience in implementation and integration of network, data, tools and technology such as next generation firewall technology.
• Demonstrated experience designing network environments from end-to-end.
