We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Canola Breeder/Research Technician to join our dynamic team in Horsham. Working closely with the Senior Canola Breeder, you will play a crucial role in our canola breeding pipeline, from line evaluation in blackleg breeding nurseries to yield trials and test hybrid production. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant agricultural advancements while gaining invaluable industry experience. What will you be doing?
  • Lead the organization and management of core germplasm nurseries from planning to harvest.
  • Coordinate packing of NVT, Yield trials, and contra nurseries under guidance.
  • Maintain precise records of breeding lines using Genovix databases.
  • Oversee the breeders' seed tents and ensure quality assurance for seed handover.
  • Conduct research projects, prepare reports, and communicate findings with collaborators.
  • Supervise and train technical and casual staff within the oilseed program.
  • Implement OH&S policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Manage NIR sample processing and assist with seed shipments.
What do you bring?
  • Relevant degree or TAFE certificate in Applied Science or equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in plant science research or a breeding role.
  • Proficiency in experimental procedures in plant breeding, including GMO research protocols.
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with plant breeding software.
  • Experience with field research equipment and a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, independently, and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Full driver's license.
