PIC is one of New Zealand’s leading pig production and genetics businesses with seven farm units located at various sites in New Zealand. We currently have a full-time permanent position for a pig specialist working for our farm near Oxford in Canterbury and are looking for an experienced stock specialist who has a minimum of one year or more experience working with pigs in an intensive/indoor production system or a degree in animal science/veterinarian. You will also require a good level of written and numeric skills to enable accuracy in the recording of farm data and breeding statistics, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, be physically fit and a drivers’ licence. Reporting to the Farm Manager your key responsibilities will include: • Day to day care of pigs as required • Maintaining a high quality environment for the welfare and well-being of our animals • Carrying out tasks and duties in your allocated farm department • Moving, drafting and weighing animals as required • Cleaning pens, fittings and equipment • Tend to routine husbandry of all animals Remuneration will be based on previous experience in the pig industry and will be between $20-$30 per hour. There will be opportunities to participate in further on job training and encourage development within the pork industry. Hours will vary between 32 and 60 hours per week on a roster system which will include some weekends and public holidays. Shared single accommodation is available.
