Job Description - Senior Media Relations Consultant (COM001896) Senior Media Relations Consultant - COM001896 The Communications Branch in the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety works in a fast-paced and engaging environment. The Branch is primarily responsible for raising awareness about Ministry initiatives, programs and services. The Branch oversees and executes a wide variety of internal and external communications and supports all areas of the Ministry in achieving their communications goals.The OpportunityThe Communications Branch is seeking a dedicated and motivated Senior Media Relations Consultant with experience in media relations, public communication, and crisis management. Reporting to the Executive Director of Communications you will:Act as a Ministry contact and media spokesperson and arrange media interviews;Research and prepare a wide range of written materials including key messages, Q&A's, news releases and backgrounders;Monitor issues and trends in media coverage, social media and correspondence;Collaborate with Ministry officials to organize events, promote Ministry activities and tell the Ministry's story;Advise senior officials, boards and commissions on media relations and communications issues, providing Analysis and recommending appropriate strategies to achieve desired outcomes;Develop and implement communications plans to support the goals and objectives of the Ministry; andWrite and edit other communications materials.The Ideal CandidateAs our successful candidate, you will be well-organized with superior judgment and interpersonal skills and demonstrate:In-depth knowledge of strategic communications and issues management, and the ability to identify key issues in the media and the public;Innovation and enthusiasm in your approach to communicating with internal and external audiences;Ability to compose a variety of external communications materials, including key messages, speeches, media releases and backgrounders;Diplomacy, tact and reliability in the way you communicate;Ability to research, analyze and integrate complex and often sensitive information from numerous sources in a timely manner;Ability to work as part of a team in order to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, while working independently and supporting others within the organization;Ability to be innovative and demonstrate initiative and leadership when working in a constantly changing environment; and Ability to supervise and direct staff in conducting media relations and external communications. Additionally, knowledge of policing or corrections-specific communications, such as working with the RCMP or Correctional Service Canada, is considered an asset but not mandatory. Typically, the knowledge and competencies required for this position would be acquired through:Completion of an undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, media studies, or a related field of study, combined with several years of experience in the field of media relations; andWorking knowledge of, the correctional system and the courts will be considered an asset.A valid Saskatchewan driver's license is required as occasional travel within the province will be required.What We OfferThe Ministry offers rewarding and challenging work for talented individuals in an environment that supports innovation, creativity, diversity and inclusion.
