RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ELECTRICAL DESIGNENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTIONEssential Job Functions: Position should demonstrate aprofessional and consistent approach to support thecompany's culture, mission, values, philosophy, andpolicies and procedures. Primary FunctionSummary: The position reports to the Research& Development group, the primary function of the positioninvestigation and development of technologies that have applicablevalue to technology roadmaps developed for future product lines.The research and investigation would include device compatiblehardware to operate in a commercial heavy-duty environment. Thedevice design would require using various communication protocolsfor the sensory device then broadcasting to a collecting datadevice that has cellular functionality. Dutiesand Responsibilities: • Collaborateswith the firmware, thermal, optical, and mechanical engineers asthe electrical hardware is being designed to a productdefinition. • Incorporates into theelectrical designs, considerations for data and messaging, thermaland optical requirements, and/or mechanical specifications of aknown industry challenge, safety concerns, or fleet operationalin-efficiencies. • All electricaldevices designed will operate in a heavy-duty transportationenvironment. • Develops projectstatements for a technology definition for a specific applicationthat would involve a device revision or a new applicationtechnology. May need to work with program/project manager for cleartechnology definition of the application.• Works with the specific project manager todetermine the available technology matrix and match the applicationand technology for most cost-effective solution(s).• Presents 'proof ofconcepts' designs to the team that demonstrates atechnology for a given problem definition. Concepts will carry aconcept DFMEA identifying the potential failure modes.• Develops an alpha and beta testing plan for thedevice hardware. • Construct a stresstesting plan for the electrical hardware during the validationtesting in the form of a DVP&R.• System-level integration experience.• Design for manufacturing appropriatehardware. • Experience readingelectrical schematics. o Experience with RTOS/Linux oMicrocontroller at an embedded level programing. Familiarity withC, C++, Python but not required. o Experiencewith hardware lab equipment such as oscilloscope digital scope andlogic analyzer. • Technical documentwriting experience using Visio, Word, Excel, and / or PowerPoint,this person must have the ability to communicate technologiesdiscovered in the form of a white paper. This paper will be used asa technical training document. •Revision and document control experience.REQUIREMENTS •Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relatedfield. • Working on AdvancedCertificate of Master's in electrical engineeringdiscipline, but not required. • 3+years of experience in hardware design preferred.• 3+ years of experience in circuit designdevelopment. o CADD-Altium related circuit and schematicdesign. o Embedded software resources withRTOS/Linux. o Understanding of CANBus and SAE J1939standards/protocols. o Embedded system architectto define system from micro to cloud server level.o High end microprocessor (GHz speed)engineering. o Development of mobile andcellular base communication using Bluetooth protocol to sensorydevices utilizing multiple protocols from network hardwarepartnerships. • Manufacturing printedcircuit board experience. • Understandfunctionality of the system to provide better hardware abstractionlayers. • Maintains up-to-date jobknowledge by way of attendance at seminars, visits to customers,trade journals and personal study time.• Use of drafting and drawing equipment asneeded, as well as, gages, engineering calculator, CADD translatorand math data translator. • Proficientwith Microsoft 365 suite.
