To augment our exciting and continued growth, we are looking for the next up and coming stars in the geotechnical, hydrogeological, environmental and materials testing & inspection fields to contribute to bringing this value-based service to our clients. Our projects vary in size, type, scope and complexity and include both private and public clients, and include testing and inspection for linear infrastructure, pavements, retaining walls, commercial and residential developments, and many more. Job Description GEI is seeking individuals who aspire to have a positive impact on GEI's geotechnical design team and are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management, and technical leaders. GEI will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate across multiple practices to successfully deliver geotechnical design/engineering solutions for our clients.  The Canadian operation of GEI is expanding in the Ontario market and GEI is looking for a Materials Testing & Inspection EIT to join our existing team, working on projects across Ontario. This position is based in GEI's Geotechnical and Earth Sciences office in Barrie, Ontario, and includes regular full-time work (40 hours per week). Primary Responsibilities: Perform engineering analyses, prepare technical memos, reports, construction specifications and other written documentation.  Develop competency in field testing and inspection activities including: Compaction testing using a nuclear densometer for engineered fill, bedding, backfill, granular base and sub-base, asphalt, etc. Sampling of soil, granulars and asphalt for laboratory testing. On-site concrete testing or sampling. Subgrade, foundation, and reinforcing steel inspections. Geotechnical laboratory testing (water contents, hydrometers, atterburgs, etc.). Materials laboratory testing (Proctors, granular sieves, concrete, etc.). General CAD design. Maintain testing equipment in a good condition and maintain calibration. Prepare field inspection reports. Communicate field results with contractors and supervisor. Prepare drawings using computer aided design and drafting equipment. Prepare cost estimates, schedules and construction documents, monitor construction activities in the field.  Provide support where required on geotechnical, hydrogeological and environmental subsurface investigations and reporting. Ability to spend time in the field, depending on experience level/project specifics. Qualifications University degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field. Strong fundamental knowledge of principles of construction materials testing & inspection, geotechnical engineering, and soil mechanics. Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, MS Office, MS Project, and other computer applications. Interested in teamwork, autonomous, and organized. Good physical condition. Valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle which may be used to travel to and from site. Ability to work out of town when needed. Available to work on different shifts and schedules. Attention to detail and problem solving. Ability to adapt to changing work conditions and schedules on short notice.
