Job Description Help Harland & Wolff have an HSE Management System that supports our business and allows us to manage risk. Plan, design, implement and deliver the systems, tools and processes needed to improve HSE performance and best manage HSE risk. Use general and specialist IT and other tools to help the business operate its ISO 45001 certified and other management systems effectively, in all parts of the Plan, Do, Check and Act cycle. Research and investigate best practice and innovation in our sectors and beyond to identify improvements we can make.

  • A recognised senior professional HSE practitioner who can be considered a subject-matter expert in the planning, design, delivery and improvement of safety management systems including, but not limited to, ISO45001 and HSG65.
  • Design and plan improvements to management systems for approval from key stakeholders – Group Head of Safety, other HSE professionals, site general managers, clients and regulatory bodies – to produce a plan for their effective delivery.
  • Project manage teams and third parties to deliver and improve required elements of our management systems.
  • Develop standards, procedures and instructions for new tasks, risks and improvements.
  • Audit processes and systems. This will require on-site audit fieldwork at our operational sites, including overnight stays, to a level of 4 days and nights every 2 months.
  • Lead or participate in investigations to events and near misses at our operational sites.
  • Be prime point of contact, manage the associated procurement and management processes for suppliers, consultants and contractors servicing the needs of the HSE management systems.
  • Deliver training to colleagues on all elements of the management system, remotely and on-site, including courses we deliver on behalf of external bodies like IOSH.
  • Deputise for the Group Head of Safety.
Qualifications
  • HSE qualifications meeting the requirements to achieve Chartered Status in IOSH or equivalent level in a similar organisation
  • Level 6 education, bachelors degree, or equivalent demonstrable experience that would match this basis.
  • ISO Lead Auditor in 1 or more of ISO 9001, 14001 and, preferably, ISO 45001.
  • Recognised investigation methodology practitioner eg Kelvin TOP SET
  • Training qualification at Level 3 eg Level 3 Awared in Education and Training
  • Experience in a senior leadership role in an HSE team in multi-site large companies.
