Medical Aid rate based on principal member only) To be confirmed Advert Closing Date 2/5/2024 Job Purpose The successful candidate will teach Mathematics modules and supervise student projects up to the Postgraduate Diploma level in Mathematical Sciences, will contribute to curriculum development in Mathematical Sciences (especially post-Diploma qualifications), while providing support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in teaching and learning, work integrated learning, service learning, and research. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience A doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics or a doctoral degree in Mathematics with a demonstrable focus on Applied MathematicsAt least 4 years' relevant working experience, which must include two years teaching experience in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics at the Higher Education levelDemonstrable skills and experience in Data Science (data cleaning and data analysis) in a widely used software or language such as Python, R, or SASResearch and postgraduate supervision commensurate with Institutional requirementsExperience in curriculum development Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities Teach Mathematics and related modules up to the Postgrad Diploma level in Mathematical SciencesSupervise student projects up to the Postgraduate Diploma level in Mathematical SciencesMonitor and assess Work Integrated LearningDevelop innovative teaching and learning methods and materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content)Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the DepartmentParticipate in curriculum development, particularly at post-Diploma level and higherParticipate in research projects and produce DHET-accredited publicationsParticipate in the Quality Assurance activities of the DepartmentAssist with marketing and student recruitment activitiesPerform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of DepartmentProficiency in at least one Data Science programming language such as Python, R, or SASProficiency with at least one Mathematics software package such as MATLABStrong oral and written communication skillsOrganisational and planning skillsAdaptability and willingness to innovateSkills in a code-based document preparation system (e.g., LaTeX)Strong student focusResearch and academic writing skillsProficiency in English General Information NB: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW APPLICANTS TO UPLOAD CVs.
