PRIMARY DETAILExcellent opportunity for an early career academic in counter-terrorism, intelligence, strategic defence studies. • Salary Package: From $115,787 to $136,995 (Level B) p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading• Appointment Type: Full-Time, Continuing• Location: Wallumattagal Campus, Macquarie University (North Ryde)THE ROLEMacquarie University is seeking an engaged and collaborative Lecturer (Level B) with specialist knowledge of counterterrorism, strategic security studies, or intelligence. The successful applicant will be expected to make a major contribution to teaching and leadership, including convening and teaching units across the counterterrorism, strategic security studies, or intelligence curricula at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will also be expected to engage with relevant stakeholders in the community, government, and industry, including through externally funded grant projects, and make an active contribution to the administration of the Department, Faculty and University.ABOUT YOUYou will have completed a PhD in international relations, politics, intelligence, counter-terrorism, or a related discipline, and will be able to demonstrate experience in teaching in these subjects commensurate to this position opportunity. As a teacher, you will have a demonstrated record of impactful and engaging teaching in both the classroom and online learning environments, employing a range of innovative pedagogical practices. Your collaborative, collegial approach will ensure you perform effectively within an intellectually diverse and inter-disciplinary environment. You will have a critical approach to counter-terrorism, strategic security studies, and intelligence, and be able to challenge and inspire students and colleagues alike.ABOUT USThe Department of Security Studies and Criminology (SSC), is within the Faculty of Arts, offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, expert seminars, and opportunities for research in the many areas associated with security studies and criminology. SSC draws together senior academics and leading industry professionals specialising in research, theory and practice associated with security, and the protection of both the national interest and the rights of individuals and groups within society. Over the years, we've grown to become the centre of a vibrant local and global community. .ABOUT THE JOBThis full-time, permanent role will allow the successful candidate to teach, engage in professional leadership and work within a vibrant, research active department within the Faculty of Arts. This role is defined as 70% teaching and 30% service and leadership activities. In the department, the post graduate courses in counter-terrorism, strategic security studies and intelligence, as well as undergraduate units focusing on the same, seeks to incorporate professional teachers with different disciplinary, theoretical, and professional orientations to counter-terrorism and strategic security studies, as well as intelligence. The ability to teach and serve across these areas presents the opportunity to engage in a vibrant and active pedagogic space that opens students up to new knowledge that challenges our assumptions of national security. Our areas of interest within counter-terrorism, intelligence, strategic security studies are broad, including disinformation, naval power, great nation conflict, online extremism, intelligence analysis. This position will work closely with colleagues across our interdisciplinary department and, in the classroom, postgraduate students in each of the postgraduate courses are from a wide range of undergraduate degree areas and professional backgrounds.
