Medical Scientist Continuous Shift , Queensland Health

Job Description: Provide scientific advice and provision of results to Bundaberg Hospital and external clients relating to Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics, and Microbiology in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards. Develop skills in Specimen Reception as to be able to accept, validate, and register specimens appropriately and to refer specimens to supporting laboratories. Key Competencies (role specific criteria): Demonstrated expertise and ability to apply multidisciplinary scientific judgment in Haematology, Transfusion, Chemical Pathology, Molecular Diagnostics, and Microbiology. Demonstrated ability to provide technical services in accordance with professional clinical standards, established principles/procedures, and comprehensive operation and maintenance of analytical equipment. Demonstrated ability to work within a team to contribute to the objectives of the laboratory. Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner without supervision. Demonstrated experience in the use of a Laboratory Information System such as AUSLAB. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients, and with members of staff. Demonstrated ability to contribute to quality and service improvement activities in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardization Organization (NATA/ISO) accreditation/certification. Qualifications, Registrations, and Other Requirements: The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree or equivalent qualification in Medical Laboratory Science from a recognized university or tertiary institution. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Whilst this position currently participates in a continuous shift roster, there is a requirement to work a combination of day, afternoon, evening, and overnight shifts within each fortnight. The candidate will be required to undertake frequent manual handling, bending, and lifting. Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
