QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Mental Health and Neuroscience, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.

About the Research Governance and Funding Department: The Research Governance and Funding Department within the Office of the Deputy Director comprises the Research Grants, Research Ethics & Clinical Trials, and Research Integrity offices. The Department provides research support and research quality services to enable and facilitate research. We work closely with senior researchers to address strategic priorities and support world-class research. The Research Grants Office facilitates the delivery of the corporate objectives of the Institute by assisting researchers to secure competitive external grant funding and ensuring that financial systems and resources are available as required. This incorporates financial management, including administration of all revenues and expenditures, research agreements, payroll, grant administration, budgeting, and internal and external reporting.

Responsibilities:  Applications are invited for a Senior Research Development Officer to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

Proactively search for and identify major funding opportunities that may be suitable for Faculty members and senior researchers to apply for. Provide advice and input into the strategic development and submission of applications to national and international funding schemes (e.g. MRFF, NIH, DoD), including coordination of team members and relevant members of staff to elicit and incorporate relevant information into funding applications in a timely manner. Provide expert knowledge of the research funding environment at a local, state, federal and International level and communicate opportunities to the research community. Liaise with grant funding agencies and other collaborating researchers or research organisations both within Australia and overseas. About you: You are required to have:

PhD qualification in a related discipline and experience in research at a Post-Doctoral level Demonstrated experience in working with researchers to develop research funding proposals. Expertise in policies, regulations and processes related to medical research grant funding including NHMRC, NIH and US DoD applications procedures and guidelines. Demonstrated experience in grant administration and financial management including budgeting, cost accounting, and preparation of management reports and financial statements. Evidence of ability to develop and strategically review health and medical research grant applications. Experience with developing, reviewing and negotiating research related agreements. Demonstrate high level oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively consult and negotiate. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting demands with multiple priorities and deadlines and demonstrated problem solving skills. Experience working both independently with minimal supervision as well as a member of a small team Remuneration: Salary range is $114,136 to $122,221 p.a. plus super and salary packaging. This is a full-time permanent appointment.
