If you are a skilled policy and legislation professional, energised by fast-paced, complex environments and excel at leading and empowering diverse teams, this is an exciting opportunity within the Department of Justice and Attorney-General. In this role, you will:

• Lead and support as required the delivery of a significant justice policy and legislation agenda.

• Lead engagement and negotiation to deliver Justice Portfolio policy priorities.

• Provide strategic oversight, direction and leadership for a highly capable and talented workforce.

The Justice Policy and Reform division, within the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, is one of seven divisions. It comprises around 200 dedicated employees responsible for a range of functions, including Strategic Policy and Legislation, the Justice Reform Office, the First Nations Justice Office, Regulatory Policy, Secretariats support, and oversight of Special Projects and Statutory Reviews. The Strategic Policy and Legislation Branch has approximately 60 employees, with four civil law teams two criminal law teams, and two short term project teams.

About the Role and You Reporting to the Assistant Director-General in the Strategic Policy and Legislation Branch, you will lead and support as required a skilled team of staff to deliver a significant justice policy and legislation agenda. The Executive Director is also responsible as required for leading engagement and negotiation with central agencies and across statutory offices, to enable the collaborative delivery of Justice Portfolio's policy priorities. Additionally, the Executive Director will engage as required with key internal and external stakeholders, monitor trends and developments. developments to provide high level advice on relevant policy and law reform issues.

You will possess exceptional leadership capabilities and a proven record of leadership success in large and complex environments. You will possess extensive experience in leading the development, implementation and monitoring of strategic policy and legislation. You will display a high level of autonomy, delegation and agility in adapting environments, with a comprehensive understanding of navigating complex public administration policies and systems. You will demonstrate experience in navigating and managing highly complex stakeholder relationships as well as working with stakeholders to enhance outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders. Importantly, you will drive a culture of respect and inclusivity.
