General/Business Unit Manager (CEO & General Management)

Predictive Recruitment Partners has been engaged by ATOM Supply to find a very special person to take up the new, fully remote position of General Manager - Talent and Training.

About ATOM:

ATOM is Australia's fastest-growing industrial and safety products distributor. We see our role as being 'the team supporting the teams that drive industry in Australia'. Think of us as the people providing industry workers with all their workwear, PPE, tools, and just about 'every little thing' they need to get their job done. Then, also think of us as providing their workplace with all the safety, cleaning, and just about 'every little thing' it needs to keep their business going.

At the core of why we exist is service, and everyone who works at ATOM abides by our golden principle, which is: "We do the little things for each other so that the little things get done for our customers." We proudly engage equally with all Australians, and we're particularly proud of our relationship with Indigenous people, businesses, and communities.

Today, we are 400+ ordinary Australians doing extraordinary things for our customers. Tomorrow, we will need many more. And this is where you come in.

About the role:

The GM - Talent & Training role is a newly-created, fully remote, pivotal leadership role aimed at helping us progress the careers and development of our people to drive tenure, internal promotion, loyalty, and commitment. A dynamic role with a large variety of tasks, the focus of the role is to ensure people are well aligned with their work, engaged with our mission, and delivering on our customer promise of outstanding service.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible primarily for expanding the leadership capabilities of all managers, identifying and nurturing talent, and establishing training pathways across the organisation to help us scale at speed without compromising on the quality of service delivered.

An autonomous role, you'll enjoy the freedom to work from home with with all levels of management within the business and create a legacy for yourself by being ATOM's pioneer in this new role.

It will see you day to day:

Developing and driving talent pathways and training programs throughout the business Providing the business with efficient and effective behavioural and pathway management Using AI, automation, outsourcing, and other applications to minimise cost of service delivery Mentoring managers on talent development and engagement Embedding The Predictive Index throughout the group. We anticipate this role will primarily operate in a virtual environment, meaning you are free to work fully remote, from anywhere in Australia.

About you:

You probably describe yourself as a warm, confident, and outgoing individual, with a strong commitment to both relationships and results.

Preferring to take the lead in conversations, you also have a deep understanding that results can only be achieved with and through people. As such, you are passionate about making meaningful connections with people and having opportunities to influence others' opinions to create buy-in and commitment.

While you are self-directed and willingly initiate work, you have a collaborative, cooperative style and genuinely want to see others involved in the decision-making process. You are comfortable taking informed risks and will frequently "sell" your ideas to others to ensure the organisation is driven forwards.

Your superpower is a sincere appreciation for people and how they are each uniquely motivated. Accessing information to help you design and implement ways to improve interpersonal interactions and influence personal growth based on others' needs is an important feature of the way you like to work.

You're naturally open to change and innovation and look for ways to constantly improve processes and procedures to gain efficiencies and increase speed of turnaround. And while you'll handle the bigger picture aspect of these changes, you prefer to leave the detail work of implementation to others.

Driven by a need to motivate and develop others, you relish having a positive impact on both individuals and teams, pushing them to lift themselves, meet higher expectations, and respond swiftly to changes in the environment. Your team members and peers experience you as an engaging and enlivening leader who seeks to unlock their potential and empower them by adopting training, coaching, and mentoring techniques, rather than simply telling them what to do.

What you bring to the role: Ability to quickly react and adapt to changes in the work and wider environment Natural warmth and a strongly empathetic, engaging communication style that respectfully challenges others' current ways of doing things A big picture view of the necessary career paths and learning opportunities that will support the growth of the organisation and minimise the cost of service delivery The ability to teach managers/leaders things they maybe hadn't previously considered about leading others A fluent, lively, and enthusiastic personality with a strong commitment to results A willingness to work across multiple time zones outside of traditional work hours Experience with training platforms, talent development programs, and behavioural profiling tools A willingness to train others to develop their skills and confidence to enable greater delegation of authority and self-reliance An appetite for innovation and change, while driving accountability.  What we can provide:

On offer is a competitive remuneration package including a vehicle allowance, phone, laptop, and some domestic travel.

As part of a growing national company, we offer flexibility, challenge, variety, and the opportunity to own your role and make a real difference. Our culture is all about service and you'll enjoy our receptiveness towards your ideas to improve our customer experience. Your success will be measured against the role's OKRs rather than the amount of hours you work.

We're also big on recognition and reward and we provide a bonus structure for those who are eligible and meet mutually agreed targets.

What you must have to apply for this role: Ability to travel domestically from time to time Suitable office/location from which to work remotely Demonstrated business acumen Demonstrated experience influencing, mentoring, and managing managers Previous experience in a Learning & Development or People & Culture role A Cert IV in Training & Assessment or Bachelor of Arts (Training & Development).
