You'll grow and learn in a collaborative, safe and supportive environment and play your part in changing the course of tomorrow.Everyone at AGL is an important part of building a better energy future and we want you to join in.About the RoleSupport and partner with senior leaders through energy transitionDiscounts on energy, telcos and solar plans | Hybrid workNew role | Full Time Perm | Melbourne or Sydney basedWe have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Corporate Lawyer to join AGL and deliver high quality environmental compliance related legal services to AGL.Internally referred to as the Senior Corporate Lawyer - Environment, Transition & Approvals, this newly created role will primarily focus on two core areas applicable to AGL's operations:Planning and environment law, including renewable and thermal site operations and HSE regulation; andResources law, land access and approvals related to major projects, energy hubs, transition and decarbonisation initiatives.As a trusted legal advisor, you will have the opportunity to develop initiatives which improve the quality and efficiency of legal services, whilst supporting senior leaders through this exciting energy transition and decarbonisation agenda.What you'll be doing:Reporting to the Group Counsel - HSE, People & Transition, you will:Provide strategic advice on planning, environmental law matters, including approvals, rehabilitation, and regulatory enforcement.Assist in establishing legal support priorities and resource allocation for achieving strategic goals.Support senior leaders and the legal team in meeting due diligence obligations, including environmental compliance.Ensure cost-effective external counsel is available and maintain relationships with them.Deliver legal training programs on planning, environmental regulation, and industry trends.Develop initiatives to enhance the quality and efficiency of legal services.Lead AGL representation on planning and environment legal matters, including regulatory compliance and enforcement.Maintain an understanding of planning and environmental law and advise on legal implications.Assist in preparing and lodging submissions on legislative and policy changes.Manage AGL's legal risk by identifying and addressing risks proactively.About YouWhat you'll bring to the table:Demonstrated experience (7+ years PQE) in either private practice or in-house counsel roles (or both) with experience in Planning, Property and Environmental lawBachelor of Laws degree and admitted to practice in an applicable Australian jurisdictionExperience in advising on complex legal matters in relevant legal disciplineAbility to liaise with senior stakeholdersStrong ability to think analytically, communicate concisely, demonstrate strategic thinking and problem-solving abilitiesEnergy experience will be highly regardedWe'd love to see your application, submitted by Sunday 28 April 2024.Please note - unsolicited resumes from agencies will not be accepted by AGL.At AGL, we offer a wide range of benefits including:Flexible working options including hybrid work.Discounts on energy, telcos and solar plans.Participate in Energise - our reward & recognition program.Access 20 weeks of paid parental leave for the primary carer.Access to an additional week of recharge leave per year.Play an active role in our diversity & inclusion initiatives.Novated leasing and Electric Vehicle subscriptions.Access to study assistance, AGL's share purchase plan and insurance deals.*Benefits may change over time and vary based on location.Inclusion at AGLAt AGL, we value diversity and welcome applicants from various backgrounds, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, individuals with disabilities, culturally diverse individuals, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
