Chief Executive Officer - Australian Institute for Teaching & School Leadership Lead the vision for this high profile national InstituteDrive excellence in the education professionChampion national and international strategic initiativesThe PositionThe Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) provides independent, national leadership for the Commonwealth, and state and territory governments, that supports and promotes excellence in the profession of teaching and school leadership. The focus of AITSL is to establish professional standards, support initial teacher education, and implement professional growth strategies to enhance teacher expertise and leadership capacity within schools. AITSL is seeking to appoint an experienced, creative, and engaging leader to the position of Chief Executive Officer to steadily and sustainably progress the organisation.Reporting to the Board Chair, the CEO is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of AITSL as a high profile national institute. The CEO will work to foster and promote the reputation of AITSL and lead a committed and engaged team, while maintaining a broad network across the most senior levels of education and government and overseeing the development of new opportunities. This is a critical influencing role operating across educational sectors and jurisdictions. The incoming CEO will drive a national vision, developing and maintaining relationships at all levels to build influence and credibility, while also delivering a sense of unity and cohesion. The CEO will play a key role within the organisation to build connection and collaboration as a team, ensuring an environment that supports high quality performance.The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader with extensive knowledge of the Australian education sector and its structures, systems and processes at Commonwealth and/or state and territory levels. Presenting as highly credible within the teaching profession, the appointee will be outcomes focused and demonstrate the ability to deliver results and ensure AITSL's work has significant national impact. Presenting with senior-level gravitas and a progressive mindset, the appointee will respectfully challenge the status quo while strengthening relationships and trust at all levels of government. Commercially astute, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellent judgement combined with highly developed negotiation, stakeholder management, communication, and engagement skills. A collaborative and pragmatic approach to serving the education system will be critical to success in this position.AITSL is a public company established under the Commonwealth Corporations Act 2001 and is funded by the Australian Government.
