Gap Explosive Ordnance Detection (GapEOD) specialises in the detection of near-surface metallic items, including Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and Ground Engaging Tools (GET).

Since 2013 GapEOD have been developing the UltraTEM technology, an advanced metal detector that enables high-definition mapping of near surface metal in diverse ground conditions. The UltraTEM has been successfully deployed in terrestrial, marine and airborne environments.

Our business continues to expand and we are excited to welcome a dedicated Geophysicist who is passionate about joining our team and contributing to our growth.

The Role The Geophysicist will be responsible for geophysical data processing to support field projects conducted by GapEOD, as well as our clients. This pivotal role involves client and crew interaction, providing target lists, maintaining data quality control, producing GIS outputs and generating reports.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our Chief Geophysicist, who possesses over 20 years of industry expertise, with a primary focus on UXO detection and discrimination. In addition to providing operational support, the geophysics team also engages in research and development tasks aimed at enhancing and expanding our capabilities. This includes testing new equipment and overseeing the commissioning of systems both in office and field settings.

GapEOD operates globally, undertaking a diverse range of projects spanning North America, Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The Geophysicist role encompasses the remote support of these projects, as well as presenting opportunities to travel to project sites for the commissioning of new systems and the training of local clients.

The role is situated at our Brendale office; however, due to our global operations, there will be occasions when data processing is required outside of regular working hours. To accommodate this, we offer flexible working arrangements.

Tasks and Responsibilities Geophysical data processing to support field projects; Client and field crew interaction; Providing target lists, maintaining data quality control; Generating reports; Compliance with all HSEC requirements; Develop, maintain and review policies and procedures. Preferred Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's Degree of Science majoring in geophysics; Five years plus experience in a similar near-surface geophysics role that involved processing geophysical survey data; OR, five years plus experience with processing potential field or electromagnetic geophysical sensor data in a minerals exploration environment; OR, five years plus experience with processing geophysical sensor data in a marine environment;  Experience using GIS or geophysical data analysis software, such as QGIS or Oasis Montaj, to produce output deliverables and maps; Coding experience in Matlab, Python or other high-level language, particularly any experience involved in interfacing codes to QGIS or Oasis Montaj.  Knowledge of geospatial systems including datum, datum transformations and GPS systems; Project Management skills with the ability to clearly assign tasks;  Effectively manage Stakeholder Satisfaction, responding effectively and in a timely manner to internal and external client enquiries;  Exceptional listening, verbal and written communication skills;  Ability to meet deadlines, schedules and time commitments;  An adaptable personality with the ability to accommodate changes in the environment, organisation, culture, rules, values and technology;  Extensive motivation and highly driven towards goals and targets.
