About Our Client The client is a government body.
Job Description Provide legal services across the organisation, responding quickly and effectively to non-routine and urgent matters requiring legal advice.Act as an advocate on behalf of the organisation in a variety of courts and/or tribunals, as required.Support the organisation's enforcement function with both high level legal advice on the sufficiency of evidence, prospects of success of an investigation matter and the facilitation of prosecutions with the support of an external specialist law firm.Identify opportunities for improving the organisation's policies and operational practices in order to reduce the legal exposure of the organisation and make recommendations for implementation strategies.Prepare reports, submissions, Ministerial responses and correspondence on complex legal issues and in relation to the organisation's compliance requirements and the provision of its investigation services.Develop and maintain strategic working relationships with the organisation's staff and relevant external organisations and individuals to enhance the organisation's capacity to effectively meet and manage its legal obligations, including those obligations imposed on the organisation as a statutory authority.Advise, negotiate, and consult internally, across government and externally from industry, community organisations and the public.Draft legal documents, submissions, briefing notes and correspondence on matters across a broad spectrum of subject areas, including issues associated with an agency's legislative and statutory responsibilities. The Successful Applicant Possession of a Degree in Law from a recognised tertiary institution and admission and qualifications for immediate admission as a Barrister-at-law or Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland is required. Government contractual experience with QITC framework would be highly regarded.
