We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Linux Systems Administrator Intern. This internship provides a unique opportunity for beginners to gain hands-on experience in managing and maintaining Linux-based systems using the command line, using Github to version control code, and deploy a WordPress website. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to learn about real-world projects while working closely with experienced professionals in the field.  This is a ten week onsite internship at our New York City offices. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES Create a version controlled code repository for application code and create a deployment process. Create and manage a Linux-based virtual computer server, add/remove software packages, and apply system updates when available, schedule tasks, and run services. Collaborate with the team to deploy and update software applications on Linux platforms. Work on simple shell scripts to automate basic system administration tasks, and code deployment. Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Basic knowledge of git version control, and using Github for code. Familiarity with fundamental command-line operations and shell scripting. Basic understanding of Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, RedHat, etc). Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and also collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Excellent written communication skills and eagerness to learn. ABOUT THE CLOUD TEAM @ SIMONS The Cloud Team supports various projects and web properties at the Foundation such as the famed Quanta Magazine online publication, the Foundation website, and SFARI funded SPARKforAutism to name a few. We work closely with various teams to assist them in building, deploying, and maintaining applications at scale on the internet.
