As the Human Resources Officer, you will provide high level administrative support for the delivery of strategic and operational human resource management to enhance service delivery. Human Resources sits within the Business Services Team and consists of the Human Resources Manager and the Human Resources Officer.
QCAT has over 160 staff and is a dynamic fast paced organisation with career progression opportunities within and across the different business units: Corporate Services, Client Services, Legal Services, Operations Support, Human Rights Division and Civil, Administrative and Disciplinary Division.
As the Human Resources Officer, you will provide high level administrative support for the delivery of strategic and operational human resource management to enhance service delivery.
Your key responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain working knowledge of human resource management legislation, directives, delegations, policies and practices to provide advice and guidance to clients and staff.
• High level communication, consultation, negotiation and liaison skills to interact effectively with clients on a wide range of human resources and organisational development matters, maintaining and fostering strong and positive relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development, implementation and review of practices and procedures to meet the strategic direction of QCAT's key objectives.
• Support best practice establishment, recruitment and payroll management including managing employment documentation relating to human resource management activities, including use of the Aurion payroll system as required
• Investigate, as needed, and address staff enquiries regarding payroll HR matters ensuring the response is timely and accurate.
• Develop, maintain and regularly update databases and registers.
• Contribute to team projects and initiatives as required and support a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
• Prepare reports and statistical information for managers and other clients.
• Undertake administrative support activities to assist Business Services and other tasks as directed to assist in or support the delivery of services within QCAT.
Technical skills, abilities and cultural capability:
• Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in operational human resources (payroll, establishment)
• Communicates with clients on a wide range of human resources and organisational development matters
• Sets priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job and responsibilities
• Intermediate skills in computer applications (Microsoft office suite, Aurion)
• Works on multiple projects simultaneously and adjusts priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
• Establishes and maintain working relationships with the team and internal and external stakeholders
• Contributes to workplace equity, diversity and inclusion that enriches our culture of respect and inclusion.
Qualifications and conditions:
While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, experience in the area of Employment Relations/Industrial Relations, Human Resources and/or Work Health and Safety would be highly regarded.
