Life Skills & Transition Center - Grafton, North Dakota - Adaptive Equipment SpecialistPlay a key role in designing, engineering and fabricating customized adaptive devices for individuals with sever physical disabilities or significant sensory deficiencies to promote independence and facilitate individuals' ability to live in the least restrictive setting possible.As an Adaptive Equipment Specialist (AES), you will work closely with the Shop Manager/Therapist to review specifications in order to construct adaptive equipment and/or modify existing equipment. In addition, you will perform sanitization techniques, record data, participate in organizational processes, ensure safety protocols and execute shop duties related to upholstery sewing and fabric alterations. To thrive as an AES, you must have a strong understanding of project outcomes as well as ability to read and interpret measurements and project specifications. You have a commitment to working safely and following facility procedures in addition to a curious nature and desire to learn and understand medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and how it can be used to enhance the lives of individuals requiring adaptive equipment. You should be able to maneuver and lift equipment weighing 50 pounds or more and be comfortable interacting with the public, including both children and adults.To be considered for the AES, you must have an associate degree or a high school diploma with related work experience along with experience using power tools and the ability to design and fabricate items using various construction plans and materials such as plastic, wood and metal.About HHS:ND HHS strives to make North Dakota the healthiest state in the nation by reinforcing the foundations of well-being: physical, economic, and behavioral.
