An experienced civil lawyer with expertise in mental health and disability law who can join the Mental Health & Disability Law leadership team in the role of Deputy Managing Lawyer and play a key role in the management and delivery of high-quality legal services across the state.

We are seeking an experienced civil lawyer with leadership and management capability to help manage and support our dedicated team of lawyers in the Mental Health & Disability Law (MHDL) sub-program, delivering legal services and other activities to promote and ensure respect for the rights, autonomy and dignity of people with mental health issues or cognitive disability.

Reporting to the Managing Lawyer, you will work with the Managing Lawyers and Program Manager as part of a collaborative leadership team to help oversee the delivery of high-quality mental health and disability legal services. You will provide supervision and direct line management to other lawyers, work with stakeholders and contribute to strategic advocacy and reform and other activities to improve outcomes and access to justice for clients in a range of legal areas, including compulsory mental health treatment.

You will also act as a senior lawyer providing legal assistance to clients in MHDL practice areas, including duty lawyer services and complex matters, and provide support to lawyers practising at regional offices.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country. About you: As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

People management and leadership capabilities, with an ability to motivate and develop the skills and expertise of a team.Substantial knowledge or practical experience in providing quality legal services with a focus on mental health and disability law.An ability to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues.Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse clients and capacity to develop strong internal and external working relationships.A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).Don't meet every requirement?
