We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chartering Manager to join our dynamic team in our Rio de Janeiro office. The Chartering Manager will support the chartering activities of the company in the by conducting market research, assisting in charter negotiations, facilitating voyage planning, maintaining customer relations, managing risk, and providing market intelligence. This position will play a vital role in optimizing chartering operations and contributing to the Company's success in the South American shipping market. Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular market analysis to identify chartering opportunities in the South America region.
- Monitor freight rates, vessel availability, and trade patterns to support decision-making.
- Assist in negotiating charter agreements with charterers, brokers, and other stakeholders.
- Support senior chartering managers in securing competitive rates and favourable terms.
- Assist in the preparation and review of charter party contracts, fixture notes, and other relevant documentation.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with legal and operational requirements.
- Support voyage planning activities, including route optimization, port selection, and cargo scheduling.
- Coordinate closely with operations teams to ensure timely and efficient execution of charter contracts.
- Build and maintain relationships with charterers, brokers, and port agents in the South American market.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries and communications related to chartering activities.
- Assist in assessing and mitigating risks associated with chartering operations, including credit risk, market volatility, and geopolitical factors.
- Monitor vessel performance and identify potential issues proactively.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activities in the Latin American region.
- Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3-10 years of experience in the maritime industry, preferably in chartering, operations, or logistics
- Knowledge of dry bulk shipping operations and market dynamics.
- Proven track record of successful charter negotiations, contract management, and customer relationship management.
- Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to interpret market data and formulate effective business strategies.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in documentation and contract management.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is ideal, written and spoken. Additional language such as Portuguese is a plus.
